Annacurra: Field day 2019 - The total raised for the field day this year was €5,234.35. This was in or around the same as last year but considering the weather it could have been down considerably on previous years.

Again, a sincere thanks to all involved, in particular the parish council, their spouses, their children and their friends without whom it would not have happened.

Community Games

Next Saturday sees our county Wicklow tag rugby champions travelling to Carlow IT for the Leinster Finals. We would like to wish our under-11 and under-14 boys and girls all the luck of Wicklow and to do your best and enjoy the experience.


This Saturday, July 6, our intermediates play their first game of the championship. It is on in Wicklow at 6.45 p.m. against Kilmacanogue. Best of luck lads and all support would be appreciated.

We send our deepest regrets to the McDonald family on the very sad passing of Sheila. She was a great supporter of the club and will be missed by everyone.

To the Keohane family on the passing of Noel.

We also send our condolences to the Cleary family on Joe's passing. Joe was a top-class handballer and he also played for Annacurra in the 1955 county senior final.

Bowls Club

The members of Annacurra Indoor Bowls club extend their sympathy to our colleague Kathleen McAllister on the recent death of her sister Mary Moules RIP. We also extent our sympathy to Mary's husband John and family.

Our Bowls Club is in Summer recess at present. Bowling usually recommences for the new season in mid-September when we hope there will be a number of new members joining.

Kids Summer Camp in Annacurra

The Bricx Club Lego AND Krafty Kidz Summer Camp. Due to such an interest in our July dates, we are delighted to announce we will be running a second summer camp in Annacurra Community Hall.

Dates: Monday, August 12, to Friday, August 16. Times: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost €55 per child. Age group age three to 12.

We are combining our two amazing and fun companies The Bricx Club Lego and Krafty Kidz Art and Craft Club.

Tinahely Variety Group

Tinahely Variety Group invites you to the launch of our 2019-20 season on Friday, July 5, in the Courthouse Arts Centre at 8 p.m. Come along and enjoy some refreshments. We are currently looking for help with stage crew, costumes, make-up, set design and construction, sound and lighting and of course actors.

Avoca GAA lotto

Tea Dance

Avoca Active Retirement are having a tea dance on Sunday, July 21, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Avoca Community Hall. Music will be by the Wicklow Man. Admission: €5. Join us for a lovely afternoon of music and dancing. Everyone is welcome.

Agricultural Show

Carnew and district agricultral show will be held on Saturday, July 20, in Umrigar. For a full schedule of events phone 087 1429325 or email There will be classes for ridden hunter in hand and working hunter horses pony classes, sheep, poultry, baking, crafts and flowers, and a junior section dog show. A great day out for all the family.

GAA Lotto

Rings Tournament

A rings tournament will be held on Friday, July 5, in Kenny's at 9 p.m., there will be a raffle and door prize, admission is €5 and all proceeds are towards Carnew Community Care, all support greatly appreciated.

Tea/coffee Day

There will be a tea or coffee day on Friday, July 5, in Roches All Care Pharmacy's from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in aid of friends of local people with Multiple Sclerosis North Wexford/South Wicklow Branch, all support would be greatly appreciated.

Tinahely Walking Club

The following are the walks for the next two weeks for Tinahely walking club. July 7: Lough Dan. Level A, 16km, five hours. Meet Tinahely 9.45 a.m. or Laragh 10.30 a.m. July 14: Camaderry and Turlough Hill. Level A, 18km, six hours. Meet Tinahely 9.15 a.m. or Glendalough upper car park 10 a.m.

As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food and drink. Please check Tinahely Walking Club Facebook page for any changes to the scheduled walks.

Summer Camp

Come join an exciting summer camp at Carnew National School from July 29 to August 2. For age group: 4-12. Times: 9.30 a.m. to midday (Art Camp) midday to 1 p.m. (Activity Camp).

Art in the morning (Tile Painting, Clay Houses, Drawing, puppets and much more) Activity camp in the afternoon (Introduction to Tae-Kwon-Do, circuit training and lots more).

Musical Society

Blessing of the graves

The Blessing of the graves takes place in Castletown on Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m. Little bottles of Holy Water will be available at the entrance.

Field Day

Our annual Fun Day field day takes place on Sunday, August 4, at 2 p.m. and we appeal for your support as this is the main yearly fundraiser for our parish. Raffle tickets will be available shortly and we hope you are in a position to support. All of the money raised goes to fund the running of our church. On the day, there will be all the usual events and we ask our team of ever-reliable volunteers to be at the ready.



The annual Coolgreany Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on this Sunday, July 7, in Coolgreany, and plans are advancing favourably for that day, this is always a very worthwhile one with some lovely trophies and cups to be won in all of the different horse and pony events, and also some great jumping in all of the children's jumping classes.

In conjunction with the Gymkhana there will be a Monster Raffle, with tickets on sale at present. The prize money is first prize of €500, second prize of €200, and three prizes of €100 each. Tickets are €2 each or book of three tickets is €5. Draw will take place on day of Gymkhana. All proceeds will go to St David's Church Funds. Everyone welcome.

Coolgreany Vintage Club

A meeting of Coolgreany Vintage Club Members will take place in the Coolgreany Inn on this Wednesday at 8.30 p.m., to start preparations for our vintage day on September 8.

Golden Circle Club

The Golden Circle Social Club are running the following events.

Trip to the Country Music Festival in Gowran Park, Kilkenny on July 14, cost of bus €15, event tickets available on the gate at €25.

Trip to 'Copperface Jacks the musical' in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin on July 27, cost of bus plus ticket €60.

Congratulations to Seán Kavanagh Newtown, who celebrated his 11th birthday on last Saturday, June 29, also birthday wishes to Alex Brogan Knockgreany, who celebrated his eighth birthday on last Sunday, June 30.

Cancer Support

The three local ladies: Vera Grogan, Alice Gardiner, and Betty Russell, who participated in the recent marathon and raised €664 for the Arklow Cancer Support Group, would like to thank everyone who sponsored and supported them in their efforts, and that the above amount has been handed over to the support group.


The club is appealing to the community for support for their weekly lotto which has changed slightly due to the closure of the local post office.

Children's creative writing workshops

The Lennon Centre, Annagh are running children's creative writing workshops in July for children aged 11 to 16 years. Dates as follows: Saturday and Sunday July 21/22 for age 11-13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day; Saturday and Sunday July 28/29 for age 14-16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
