Afternoon tea in Tinakilly raises €1,690 for scout den in Wicklow
Efforts to upgrade the scout den in Wicklow town continued over the weekend with a well-supported afternoon tea fundraiser held in Tinakilly Country House on Sunday.
The scout den dates back to the 1960s and now needs a significant upgrade in order to comply with Fire Safety Standards. Necessary works include the installation of a fire detection and alarm system, fire-proof plaster boarding and six fireproof doors. A 'Donate a Door' fundraising campaign has already begun.
Sunday's fundraiser was organised by the 7th Wicklow Scout Troop and included a 'Hiking Boots to High Heels' fashion show, with Wardrope and Heels of Wicklow town and Ashford providing the clothes. Some scout leaders also strutted their stuff up and down the catwalk in true 'supermodel' style. Zoe Patterson of FYI Dance gave a talk on how movement actually enhances your brain. The event ended up raising €1,690 which will go towards the fire proofing project.
Thanks are also passed onto PMP Print and Marketing for printing the tickets and Tinakilly Country House and staff for looking after everyone so well.
'We were delighted with the turnout and want to thank everyone for their support. Sunday's afternoon tea was full to capacity and we couldn't have asked for such wonderful support,' said Fiona Byrne, Group Leader. A recycled clothes collection takes place in the Scout Den on Saturday, November 2. You can drop clothes in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
