Arklow's Asgard Theatre hosted its first literary event last Thursday as two best-selling local writers took to the stage to talk about the writing process and their journeys into print.

Adele O'Neill and Eleanor O'Reilly shared their experiences in conversation with award-winning director Imelda McDonagh.

Eleanor's debut novel, M for Mammy, was published earlier this year. A popular teacher of English and Classical Studies at Gorey Community School, she has received several literary prizes, including the 2015 RTE Francis McManus Radio Short Story Award and the 2013 William Trevor International Short Story Award.

Adele's first novel, Brothers and Sisters, won the Annie McHale Debut Novel Award 2017. Her second book, Behind A Closed Door, was published last year. Her third novel, When The Time Comes, is due for release in 2019.

During the event, the two writers shared details of their creative process from creating characters to reaching wordcounts and developing the discipline required to complete a novel. The pair also talked about their experiences of the publication process from finding an agent to seeing their novel in print.

The evening included a question and answer session for budding writers and literary enthusiasts. 'It was a super night,' said Colm Moules, Arklow Music and Arts PRO. 'Thanks to all for coming.'
