A Blessington couple said 'I do' during an intimate lockdown wedding.

Kate Doyle and Mick Miley tied the knot in front of their children and parents at an intimate ceremony in St Joseph's Church, Valleymount earlier this month.

Kate and Mick, who live in Ballyknocken, decided to walk up the aisle as planned on June 4.

'There was just us, the priest, our kids and parents, the photographer and singer at the church,' said Kate.

The couple, who have been together for 15 years, had invited 230 guests to join them on their special day. After walking up the aisle, they had planned to celebrate their nupitals with a party at Rathsallagh House, but this had to be re-arranged due to Covid-19.

Instead, they decided to go ahead with a more intimate ceremony on June 4. They were joined on their special day by their children and parents, Helen and Ged Doyle and Freda and Eddie Miley.

'I'm from Liverpool and we were supposed to have family coming over. Instead, it was a very intimate service with our immediate family present. We felt there was a lot less pressure and I felt less nervous walking down the aisle.'

The pair have been together since 2005 and have four children, Aimee (9), Cian (6), Jamie (2) and Ben (2). Mick, a plumber, popped the question to stay-at-home mum Kate last March.

Kate ordered a stunning dress for the day online from retailer, Next. She will wear her original dress for a party and blessing which will take place in 2021. The couple's honeymoon has also been postponed to 2021.

After tying the knot, the newlyweds enjoyed a family barbecue at home.

'We're going to have a blessing and a party in Rathsallagh House,' Kate said.
