Two Wicklow artists were congratulated this week for winning after their work nabbed them some coveted Golden Fleece Awards.

Both David Eager Maher and Kate O'Kelly won the Merit Prize for the 2015 Gold Fleece Awards - David for his paintings and drawing, while Kate won for her work in ceramics.

The duo were congratulated by Minister of State with Special Responsibility at the Office of Public Works, Simon Harris, last week.

'I am very pleased to meet with the two Merit prize winners of the Golden Fleece Awards, who both happen to be fellow Wicklow natives,' said Minister Harris.

'In the surrounds of the historic and beautiful Dublin Castle, one of the sites which fall within the care of my office, OPW, I am delighted to congratulate both artists on their stunning works of art and the significant endorsement which they have received through winning a Golden Fleece Award,' he added.

The Golden Fleece Awards aim to support and promote the diversity of contemporary Irish creativity in Arts and Crafts.

The award was launched in 2001 and is an artistic fund established as a charitable bequest by the late Helen Lillias Mitchell.
