RHA award for artist Shay
Dunlavin based artist Shay O'Byrne has been awarded the Hanley Energy Award for landscape of distinction at this years Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Annual Exhibition for his painting 'Moonlight, Lugnaquilla'.
He was presented with the award at the prize-giving ceremony at the RHA Gallagher Gallery, Ely Place, Dublin.
The exhibition, which features over 500 works from artists all over Ireland, continues until August 10.
Originally from Dublin, his move to Dunlavin many years ago, and the west Wicklow landscape has been a major influence on his work.
He is primarily self-taught, studied in National College of Art and Design part-time, life drawing in Trinity Centre, Lincoln Place, and lithography in the Graphic Studios, Dublin. His work is principally figurative with a keen interest in the dynamics of the natural world.
He will be showing some paintings in the Market House as part of the Dunlavin Arts Festival exhibition running from June 21 to June 23.
