Party to mark first anniversary
The campaign for a Community Pool for West Wicklow is one year old and a party will take place in the Hippodrome at Russborough House to celebrate the anniversary.
The Baltinglass Municipal District is the only Municipal District in County Wicklow without a council owned or operated swimming pool. It includes a population of approximately 26,000, according to the 2016 Census, reaching from Manor Kilbride to Carnew.
'This is a free family fun day to celebrate a successful year of the campaign to secure a swimming pool for West Wicklow. The community in West Wicklow have been overwhelmingly supportive of this grass roots campaign since it started in July 2018 and this is our way of saying thank you,' said Deirdre McCormack of the campaign group Community Swimming Pool for West Wicklow.
The celebration takes place on Saturday, August 17, at the Hippodrome at Russborough House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be games with Wicklow Local Sports Partnership, safety tips by Water Safety Ireland, Dancing with the Ruth Shine School of Dance, dancercise with Katie Charles, face painting and music with East Coast FM, free access to Russborough's famous Maze from 3pm to 4pm and a visit from some of the feathered inhabitants of the National Bird of Prey Centre.
Health Minister Simon Harris is also due to attend.
As part of the campaign Wicklow County Council agreed to commission a feasibility study to investigate the viability of a local swimming pool in West Wicklow. On the back of the feasibility study, the Council applied for Stream 1 funding from the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.
