Ghoulishly good fun in haunted woodlands
Anyone visiting the Coillte woodland in Newtownmountkenendy on Sunday was in for a rude awakening as they were greeted by a array of terrifying, and not so terrifying, characters.
The annual Halloween Woodland Adventure is organised by Newtown Tidy Towns each year and has steadily grown in popularity. This year an impressive 285 children took part, ranging in age from two to twelve. Most of the youngsters also came faultlessly attired in their own scary costumes.
A number of well known fairytale and folklore characters, including everyone from Robin Hood to some unusually friendly witches, were lurking in the woods. Each child's mission was to locate all the characters, have a quick chat with them and then strike their names of the list they were provided with.
Huw O'Toole of Newtown Tidy Towns was delighted with the attendance. He said: 'We organise the event each year and basically it is a community big party mainly for the kids'.
