Elders up for a TV Emmy
A documentary that features Arklow has been nominated for a prestigious television award.
The Elders Last Tour: Going to Arklow is among the four nominees for a Mid-America Emmy award for cultural documentary.
The programme follows Kansas City's Irish-American folk rock group, The Elders, on their 15th annual guided bus tour of Ireland.
The group's lead singer Ian Byrne is originally from Avoca and moved to the United States with his family in 1986.
The documentary follows the group's tour of Ireland in which fans are invited to join in on an extraordinary 12-day excursion visiting historical and geographical sights during the day and gathering at a local pub or ballroom at night for pints and performances by the band. Among the places included in the programme are Aughrim and Arklow.
The Elders Last Tour: Going to Arklow was broadcast by KCPT, Kansas City's public broadcasting TV station. The awards ceremony takes place on October 6.
