Coláiste Craobh Abhann will present the musical 'Hairspray' at Mermaid Arts Centre this week.

The show will be on from Wednesday, March 6, to Friday, March 8, at 8 p.m. each night.

It's 1962 and teenagers Tracy Turnblad and her friend Penny Pingleton are avid Corny Collins fans.

When the chance to dance on the show is publicised, Tracy jumps on the opportunity. Not only do her dancing skills attract Corny Collins, but also the attention of teen heartthrob Link Larkin. Overnight, Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star. But not everyone is happy with Tracy's joining the show.

The show's manager, Velma von Tussle, will do anything to oust Tracy, even if it has to include Tracy's friends Seaweed and Motormouth.

Cast and crew in Kilcoole have been preparing for the musical for months, and can't wait to get on stage tonight. They have been working under the guidance of teacher Stephanie Egan, who is the show coordinator.

The talented young people will sing and dance their hearts out as they put on this well-loved musical.

Tickets for the musical are €15 at mermaidartscentre.ie.
