St Brigid’s workshop

Local weaving expert Aoife from Wicklow Willows will host a demo on how to make your own St Brigid’s Cross at the Seed Café at Avondale Beyond the Trees.

The workshops will also recount the lovely traditions associated with the celebration of Lá Fhéile Bríde.

The workshops take place on Sunday, February 5 and Monday, February 6, with demonstrations taking place on the hour over both days at 11 a.m. and 12 noon.

Glendalough.ie is offering a free subscription for 2023 to promote artists living in the immediate area.

You will get a short biography, three photos and a link to your external website or social media promoting you as a local artist to our many visitors through the platform.

Yoga with Hildi

Do you have stiffness in your joints and want to move with ease and joy?

Are you a bit stressed preparing for ‘normal life’ this spring? How is your energy? Do you jump out of bed ready to enjoy what the day brings or do you drag yourself into the new day?

Hildi can help ease your body and mind with expertly taught yoga. She’s highly qualified, with decades of experience. Join her on Thursdays at 7.30 p.m. for yoga (all abilities welcome).

Wicklow Library

A Mixed Media and Printed Paper Collage Workshop takes place in Wicklow Library on Thursday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

Participants will be able to explore collage with artist and printmaker Susan Fortune from White Doodle Art.

Rainbows Ireland

Brockagh Resource Centre is now a registered programme centre for Rainbows Ireland. For more information call us on 0404 45600.

Rainbows is a free, voluntary service for children and young people experiencing loss following bereavement and parental separation.

The Rainbows service is an inclusive service, supporting children and young people experiencing grief and loss resulting from bereavement/parental separation/parental relationship breakdown/divorce.

Attending the programme provides children with an opportunity to meet with other children of a similar age and loss experience, at a minimum of 3 months after the loss.

Active Retirement

Wicklow Active Retirement are organising a Valentine’s Dance on Sunday, February 12 with the Wicklow Man.

It takes place in the De la Salle Pastoral Centre, St Patrick’s Church from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. and admission €10. There will be light refreshments and a raffle and all are welcome to attend.

On Wednesday, February 15, members will head to Dublin by coach to see Blood Brothers in the Bord Gais Theatre. Wicklow Active Retirement’s AGM takes place on Tuesday, February 28.

A holiday to Wales is also being arranged for the month of May.

Wicklow Active Retirement meet every Tuesday at 10.45 a.m. in the Pastoral Centre and they are always pleased to welcome new members.

Laragh comedy night

A comedy night for Laragh GFC featuring Neil Delamere will be taking place in Lyhnham’s Hotel.

Grab your tickets now in order to avoid any disappointment as tickets are bound to sell out fast. The comedy night takes place on Friday, March 26, starting at 8 p.m.

Award-winning comedian Neil Delamere is one of the top acts working in the Irish comedy scene today, well known to audiences for his regular television appearances on RTE and the BBC as well as his stand-up tours.

Laragh Heritage Trail

A place has been secured on the Heritage Keepers Programme to assist with the new Laragh Heritage Trail.

Two or three extra people are being sought to join the active panel. This will involve participating in five two-hour online workshops, over the next five Tuesday evenings, which will be facilitated by the Heritage Keepers programme.

Laragh GAA Dinner Dance

Laragh GAA Dinner Dance takes place on Saturday, February 25, in Lynham’s Hotel.

It offers the perfect way to provide supporters and members with a social night to commemorate the Junior A champions for 2022.

The meal will be served at 7.30 p.m. followed by a medals’ presentation. The night will also feature live music and a DJ.

School enrolments

Applications for Admission of Junior Infants for September 2023 will be open in Scoil Mhuire Réalt na Mara (Brittas Bay MXD N.S.), Brittas Bay from January 23 to February 10.

The Application Form is available on the school’s website www.brittasbayns.com. Application Forms are also available by emailing brittasbaynationalschool@gmail.com or phoning Scoil Mhuire Réalt na Mara on 0404 47488.

Scoil na Coróine Mhuire Ashford are now taking enrolments for September 2023 for Junior Infants and Autism class. Enrolment forms and all up to-date admissions information are available on the school website (www.scoilnacoroinemhuire.ie) or by calling 0404 40424.

COPDSI support group

The local COPDSI support group meet every Friday in the Wicklow Pastoral Centre at 12 noon and hold exercise classes.

For those who don’t fancy face-to-face classes, there is also an online class that runs at the same time, all funded by COPDSI. Sing Strong, based in Limerick, run weekly vocal and breathing classes online.

Beginner classes were due to start in January. The local group are endeavouring to not only make people aware of their existence, but also that there is help out there if you need it

Indoor bowls

Indoor bowls is played every Wednesday night in Glenealy Village Hall from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

New players are always welcome, it is a great hobby for the winter months ahead.

Indoor bowls also takes place in Moneystown Community Centre, continuing every Monday at 8.30 pm.

Beginners are very welcome.

Pilates

Pilates is now on in Glenealy village hall every Tuesday night from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Bingo

Bingo is played at Newtownmountkennedy Community Centre every Friday.

Doors open at 7.30 p.m., with Bingo starting at 8.30 p.m. – bring a friend.

Medjugorje pilgrimages

A Pilgrimage to Medjugorje departs from Roundwood on April 23 for a week and again on October 4 for a week.

Both trips will be accompanied by a Spiritual Director and both dates cost €799. Insurance is optional.

Table tennis

Table tennis takes place at Roundwood Hall on Monday nights from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., with all levels catered for. Cost is €5 per night. Contact Brian Higgins 085 118563

Retirement group

The active retirement group will meet up for the first time in 2023 on Tuesday, February 14.

Meetings continue after that every Tuesday morning from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Brockagh. If anyone would like to offer their services or share their skills with the group, please contact us by calling Denise on 0404 45600, emailing brockaghoffice@gmail.com or dropping in to the centre.
