Glenealy Tidy Towns committee would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated to their collection at the blessing of graves, and all money collected will go towards the continued upkeep of the village.

Chime In Play

Chime In Play, formerly known as Gymboree, will have summer pop up classes in Glenealy Village Hall, on Tuesdays August 9 and August 23.

Teach your child a love of music through songs, dance, instruments and fun – suitable for all babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers from 6 months to 4 years.

Women’s basketball

Join the Wicklow Wolves Women’s Basketball group every Tuesday evening in the community centre sports hall in Newtownmountkennedy between 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Learn how to play or brush up on those basketball skills.

Main aim is to get fit while having fun. Contact 087 1477507 for more details or just turn up on the night with a pair of runners.

The Liam Tiny Kenny Memorial Run

The Liam Tiny Kenny Memorial run and show in aid of Rathdrum cancer support group in conjunction with the Wicklow vintage club and Liam Kenny’s family will take place on August 28th.

Registration will take place from 11.30am and the run will be after the show meeting at Ballinacor Community park A67WY83.

Vintage classic cars and tractors and lorries and motorbikes are welcome Refreshments served on the day Please adhere to current Covid guidelines on the day.

Rathdrum Tidy Towns

An open meeting will take place in the coming weeks to discuss traffic congestion in Rathdrum.

Garth Brooks tribute act

Roundwood AFC are delighted to bring Trevor Smith and Friends in Low Places, the ultimate Garth Brooks experience, to Aras an Tochar on Saturday August 6th.

Adult art classes

Adult art classes have been postponed until further notice at the Brockagh Resource Centre.

AA meetings

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night all year round.

Excess garden produce

Anyone with an extra supply of garden food produce you can drop it outside the main entrance of the Brockagh Resource Centre in the crate provided for the community to share.

Free cooking apples outside the front door in a container for anyone to have this week.

Pattern Day walk

The annual Pattern Day Walk from Moneystown Community Centre to Lady’s Well Ballymanus Upper on Carrick Mountain will take place on Sunday August 14, leaving Moneystown at 6 p.m.

The route is about 9 km return route to Moneystown (good walking shoes and waterproof clothing recommended and no dogs allowed).

It’s suitable of older children accompanied by adults. The route is along the road then on Coillte roads. Lady’s well is an ancient well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an important site.

The Well was rediscovered in 2013 and there has been a walk every year or close to the original pattern day, August 15th .There will be a short talk on the history and traditions of the holy wells including the Pre-Christian and Christians of this ancient site and also relevant local history.

If you want to play music, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, dancing etc were all part of the traditions of pattern days and visits to the well.

Off-Road Championship

The Wicklow Athletics Off-Road Championship is coming to Laragh on Saturday, August 20, starting from 9.30 a.m. and with finishers expected from 10.20 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The races start and finish at Laragh GAA grounds.

The clubs of Wicklow will be competing for individual and team honours across various age categories as part of the Derrybawn Woods 10k race, which is open for entry to the public, and on the same day as the Run the Ridge 20k event, which raises funds for Glendalough Athletics Club and the juvenile section of Laragh GAA Club.

There’ll be an option to support and cheer on the runners both down at the GAA grounds and out on the route, with the bird-gate zig-zags will be a particularly good spot. There will be the usual category and individual prizes as well.

Walking Group

On Monday mornings weekly at 10 a.m. join the Laragh walking group at Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around the Glendalough area for approximately one hour. No need to book, just show up on the day

Yoga Tree

Yoga Tree classes take place on Friday mornings at Brockagh Resource Centre with Hilde Eiselen.

Join the expertly taught yoga classes, suitable for all abilities and ages, from complete beginner to advanced practitioners.

Relaxing, dynamic, energising, enjoyable, beneficial and fun yoga for everyone.

Wicklow Library

Every Saturday, Wicklow Library hosts story-time for children up to six years of age, while every Thursday Comhrá agus Ceol takes place at 11.15 a.m., which involves conversation and songs for children aged up to four years.

Wicklow Library are also making a call-out to all local Superheroes. The library will be hosting author, illustrator and superhero-lover Alan Nolan on Wednesday, August 10th, starting from 11 a.m.

You will learn all about Alan's favourite superheroes, how to draw a super-powered animal, and how to design your very own superhero.

Family Fun Days

Family Fun Days take place at Wicklow Mountains National Park at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday in August.

Fun for all the family with nature walks, arts and crafts, treasure hunts and bug safaris. Free with booking essential.

Aikido

Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese Martial Art for Flexibility, Coordination, Relaxation and Self Defence.

The instructor is Joe McHugh, 5th Dan Aikido Aikikai. Classes take place at Moneystown Community Hall on Wednesdays evenings from 7.30 p.m. Beginners are especially welcome. The cost is €5 for the unemployed and €8 for the employed. For information, contact 086 1019668.

Pilates

Pilates is now on in Glenealy Village Hall every Tuesday night at 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
