Wicklow Dementia Support

Volunteers are required for the Wicklow Dementia Support Wednesday activity group that meet in Wicklow town each Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Volunteers are required to support participants taking part in activities, share a cuppa and have a chat.

Calary art exhibition

As restrictions are gradually lifting, we are hoping to restart events in Calary Church this October with an Art Exhibition and Harvest Festival Weekend.

Organisers are of course aware that plans can change in line with Government guidelines regarding Covid-19 – but they have to plan.

The exhibition will be held over the weekend of October 8, 9 and October 10 in conjunction with a classical guitar recital and launch of CD by Redmond O’Toole on the Friday night and a plant and country produce sale on Saturday. The Harvest Service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 10.

Yoga with Anne Marie

Whereas the usual Thursday class is full at the moment, Anne Marie is proposing another class starting Tuesday, October 5, in Roundwood Parish Hall, 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Class covers: physical stretches (within own ability) pranayama (breath work) deep relaxation, meditation and mantra. It is important to contact Anne Marie in advance as the classes are still restricted by Covid rules. Further details call or text 086 8367578.

Personal alarms

The Roundwood and District Community Council are registered to administer the senior alert scheme, which provides grants to elderly people towards the provision of personal alarms.

The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of an emergency.

It provides security and peace of mind. If you would like more information, please call 086 8055040.

Beekeeping

Back again this year due to popular demand, Roundwood Beekeepers Association are running a FIBKA beginners course starting in October.

It is an eight-week course presented by Wille O’Byrne. Anyone interested, please email brian@walshfamily.ie with your name, telephone number and email address.

Ivy Day

The Rathdrum Development Association (RDA) have decided to hold the annual Ivy Day commemoration of Charles Stewart Parnell on Sunday, October 3, at 1 p.m. in Parnell Memorial Park.

Bingo

As the Covid restrictions are easing the Rathdrum Development Association are reviewing the situation as regards bingo indoors and it is hoped that normal bingo will resume in the RDA Hall at some stage in October.

Further information is awaited on how to organise bingo in a safe manner. Bingo patrons will be kept informed.

Active Retirement

Laragh Glendalough Active Retirement Group always welcome new members to join the group.

The next meeting of the Newtownmountkennedy Forum takes place on Thursday, October 7 at Newtownmountkennedy Community Centre at 7.30 p.m.

ALONE, the organisation that supports older people, is operating a national support line and additional supports for older people who have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to Covid-19.

Elevation Dance School

Elevation Dance School has a brand-new Acro and Aerial Arts and ‘TRIPLE AS’ Programmes (‘Acro and Aerial Artists Squad’).

It combines tumbling, balance and flexibility skills of ACRO with the thrilling skills learned on the Aerial Hoop and you have the customised new programme specific to ESPA students.

Students who enrol in this class will also have the option to take the add on AcroDance Class and become members of our ‘TRIPLE A SQUAD’, allowing opportunities for competitions and performances as an Acro Squad.

Clothes bank

Give your unwanted clothes to the Brockagh Resource Centre clothes bank, located at the back of the building.

All proceeds are in aid of the centre’s maintenance. You can also empty your glass and drink cans in the other recycle banks too.

Wedding anniversary masses

Are you celebrating your 65th, 60th, 55th, 50th, 40th or 25th wedding anniversary this year?

The Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass will be on Friday, October 8 at 7.30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Wicklow town.

Invitations will be sent out to couples who were married in St Patrick’s Church, Wicklow, and St Joseph’s Church, Rathnew.

The Parish would like to extend an invitation to any couple and their families who were not married here, but who are celebrating any of these anniversaries, to join in on the occasion.

If you wish to attend on the night, please complete the slip on the newsletter from September 19, available at https://www.wicklowparish.ie/parish-news/newsletters/, and leave it in the Sacristy or Parish Office as soon as possible.

Following Mass, there will be a presentation of Commemorative Certificates and refreshments will be served in the De La Salle Parish Centre.

Annamoe Centre

The tennis court at the Annamoe Centre is back open. If anybody has any queries or wants to make a booking, please get in touch with Christine on 086 805 7431.

Children’s tennis coaching takes place at the Annamoe Centre each Saturday morning. Anyone interested in taking part on Saturday mornings can visit the website www.jsta.ie.

Walking group

On Monday mornings weekly at 10 a.m. join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around the Glendalough area for approximately one hour.

Glenealy IT Centre

Enrolment is now taking place at Glenealy IT Centre for the following part-time certified courses – ECDL, Manual and Computerised Bookkeeping and Payroll, Photoshop, Advanced Word and Excel.

Film production course – interested in a career in film and creative media? Wish to avail of employment opportunities in the film sector? A new programme has been launched.

This BTEC International Diploma part-time course is a project-based, interactive and creative training programme, with an emphasis on ‘hands on’ practical skills throughout.

It covers cinematography, lighting, audio production, film production, and factual production. Enrol now if interested as places are limited.

Colley Row closure

Wicklow County Council plans to temporarily close the public road known as Colley Row in Wicklow town for a three-day period in October.

The temporary closure will take place from Monday, October 11 to Wednesday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Diversion routes will be in place and from Glenside Road, motorists should continue straight and take a left onto Summerhill, then left onto the roundabout at Crinion Park.

From Crinion Park, continue straight through the roundabout onto Summerhill and then take a right at the junction with Glenside Road.

The road closure is necessary for the domestic connection of gas.

Mother and baby groups

Brockagh Resource Centre has provided a space for a Mother, Baby and Toddler Group for the past number of years now.

If you are interested in running this group, contact brockaghoffice@gmail.com as there is funding now available.
