Twenty of our U10’s girls travelled to Greystones on Saturday 6th august for a blitz. They played 3 matches against Eire Og and Bray on a very warm day. The skills and teamwork on show were fantastic and this was acknowledged by each of the other team’s coaches. Big well done to the girls and thanks to the parents for all the support.

The men’s team got off to a winning start in the Intermediate championship. Beating a valiant valleymount by a score of 0-13 to 1-7.

It was a close match up in annacurra and the lads were run the whole way by valleymount. Dean Odlum rolled back the years to put in a shining performance to score 6 points, 4 from play. But it was the overall team work that got us over the line. Which goes to show by the fact we had 7 different scorers on the day.

But it did come at a slight cost as vice captain Jack Elliot had to replaced after just 4 mins after he pulled his hamstring and Robert Greenan ended up in hospital after a clash of legs. Luckily his leg is not broken but both men will be out for a number of weeks. We wish them a speedy recovery.

On a happier note, we had 2 debut’s on the day, Michael Byrne and Emmet Carolan. Both men showed what it means to pull on the black and white of Newtown. They embodied the spirit, determination and never say die attitude our new manager James has been trying to instill in the team. We look forward now to a place in the quarter finals.

Team; Emmet Carolan, James Synnott, John O’Donoghue, Michael Byrne, Conor Odlum (2f), Shane Mooney (C), Jack Elliot, Aaron Toner, Mark Fitzsimons, Sean Gregory (1), Cian Walsh, Declan Doyle, Ken Turner (1f), Dean Odlum (6p, 2f) Sean Odlum.

Cathal McNicholas on for Aaron, Evan Moran on for Cian, Neil Martin (1p) on for Declan, Ben Kieran, Luke Dease, Luke Martin (1p) on for Ken, Barry Davis, Robert Greenan (1p) on for Jack.

Junior team begin there championship campaign this week with an away day in Bray. Throw up at 7.30. Best of luck lads.
