Over 200 students from five schools enjoy a busy afternoon
Over 200 footballers from five schools descended on Coláiste Eoin in Hackstown on Wednesday for a feast of football.
Students from Scoil Aodán Naofa in Carnew, Tynock NS, Talbotstown NS, Rathcoyle NS and Scoil Niocláis Naofa in Dunlavin arrived by the busload and although the weather didn’t really play ball as it had been forecast to, the young footballers didn’t seem to care as they took to the football fields to do battle.
Carnew Emmets and Kiltegan GPO Diarmuid Hayes organised the blitz and he said it was brilliant to see so many footballers playing the game to a high standard, having fun and making friends over the course of several hours on a Wednesday afternoon.
Hayes thanked the five schools for taking part in the blitz and helping to make it the success it was. He also thanked Coláiste Eoin for the use of the grounds and the Coláiste Eoin students who played the very important role of match referees.
The Cork native said that he hoped that the blitz would encourage other schools to get involved and that hopefully there would be more events like this one taking place over the coming months in an area that is relatively quiet in terms of GAA action for primary school students.
Well done to all involved.
