PLANS have been submitted to Wicklow County Council seeking permission to demolish an existing commercial garage located on Main Street in Rathnew and replace it with three townhouses.

The garage has been in operation for many years as a heavy-duty enterprise involved in engineering steel works and containing a car repair garage. However, its location is considered to make it an ideal site for development and is located on a level area close to public transport and all the amenities in the village.

The proposed development will be accessed directly from the Main Street. The townhouses are to be located next to the Woodview Housing Estate and the buildings have been designed to present positive aspects to passers-by using the pedestrian link to the Woodside Estate.

The layout has been designed so the dwellings will be facing east. Small rear gardens are proposed, and each garden will be enclosed with a 1.8m high walled/fenced boundaries. Car parking is not proposed due to the public car park adjoining the site and the sites close proximity to public bus services and the Local-link bus service.
