FURTHER environmental surveys are expected to be carried out in the coming weeks for the proposed Arklow to Shillelagh Greenway.

The long-awaited project would create a 38km walking trail between Shillelagh and Arklow. The proposed route would use part of a disused railway line from Woodenbridge to Shillelagh, with a new track to be constructed from Woodenbridge to Arklow through woodland managed by Coillte.

A spokesperson for Wicklow County Council confirmed that consultations are preparing the documents required to submit an application for the project to An Bord Pleanala.

“Additional environmental surveys are being carried out to finalise planning and environmental reports. These environmental surveys will be carried out in September and October and are non-intrusive and limited to a walk-over of land that forms part of the preferred route,” they added.
