The Minister for Transport has yet to respond to a request to meet with councillors from west Wicklow about the N81.

Elected representatives from the Baltinglass Municipal District had written to the Department of Transport earlier in the year to ask to meet Transport Minister Eamonn Ryan about the long-awaited upgrade to the N81 and safety concerns.

District Administrator Liam Cullen told councillors at their October meeting that the Department of Transport had acknowledged the request for a meeting, but had provided no further response. Mr Cullen said he had sent another letter to the Department from the Baltinglass Municipal District to follow up their invitation to hold a meeting with the Transport Minister. No reply had been received to  the second letter so far at the time of the meeting.

Cllr Gerry O’Neill (Ind) said it was “dreadful” that no response had been received from the Transport Minister. He said one of Wicklow’s TDs had been carrying out a survey about the N81 and transport in west Wicklow, while communities had been waiting for many years for the issues to be resolved.

He expressed his upset that the Transport Minister “did not have the manners to reply” to the district’s request.
