CATHAOIRLEACH of Wicklow Municipal District Cllr Paul O'Brien has called on the ESB to resolve the lighting issue on the Main Street in Newtownmountkennedy.

After being contacted by several concerned residents of Newtownmountkennedy Cllr O'Brien got in touch with ESB, who have in turn acknowledged a fault and are trying to locate it in order to carry out repairs.

Cllr O'Brien stated: “Half of the main street is in complete darkness, which is just not good enough. This has been going on for weeks now and we're just fortunate that no one has been seriously injured or indeed worse. Pedestrians are fearful to cross the road as there have been reports of some near misses, but this can only go on for so long before someone is struck by a vehicle. I'm calling on the ESB now to step up and resolve this issue immediately before someone is killed.”

Cllr O’Brien has also called for the lights to be turned on at the LEG OF Mutton in Wicklow town.

He stated: “A lot of progress has been made with the area in terms of health and safety with a new footpath connecting Ballynerrin to the Marlton Road and into the town. The only issue outstanding is the lack of public lighting in the area leading to people not being able to use this amenity. Over two years ago I asked for the lights to be switched on and yet they haven't, which is not acceptable.”
