Grand finale for all the Lions quiz nights

The biggest quiz night of the year by far was held on Wednesday last in Wicklow Golf Club - the culmination of 11 quiz nights organised by Wicklow and District Lions Club and spaced out over the past six months.
The overall winning team consisted of Pauline Carton, Eithna Neiland and Tina Neiland. The team that finished as runners-up consisted of Mary Phelan, Liam Newsome, Breda Newsome and Ivan Shields.
The clubhouse was full, thanks to all the teams that turned up on the night. There was a total of 27 tables, which made for a really thrilling atmosphere. Twenty-two charities benefited from the annual weekly quiz nights held in various venues in Ashford, Rathnew and Wicklow town and cheques were presented to each charity by Lions president Sean Olohan.
Lion Una Breslin is in charge of the special Lions quiz team and she thanked Irene Winters and all the Lions members who helped out during the season. It involved a huge amount of work by all concerned but the members are very happy to help so many local charities and schools. She also thanked everyone for all their ongoing support.
