TALKS remain ongoing between Wicklow County Council and a landowner after access to the Lighthouse road in Wicklow town remains blocked off.
Locals and visitors attempting to access to the popular scenic walk are currently restricted by a locked gate. A CCTV installation is now in place and the pole has a notice attached stating ‘Concealed CCTV cameras operate on these premises’.
The lack of access was raised at June’s meeting of Wicklow Municipal District, when it was announced Council officials were looking to meet with the landowner to discuss the issues.
Cllr Mary Kavanagh sought an update at July’s monthly meeting of Wicklow Municipal District, before Councillors have a break during the month of August.
District Administrator Joan Sinnott said some meetings had taken place between Wicklow County Council and the landowner, who has public liability concerns. Council officials are liaising with their Law Agent and dialogue remains taking place.
It’s also understood that a notification has been made to the Data Protection Commissioner about the apparent use of CCTV in the area, but a formal complaint can’t be made because of the absence of any contact information details.
