The demand for tents and sleeping bags for homeless people in Bray will “skyrocket” as winter approaches, according to Wicklow Homeless Five Loaves.

The town’s Outdoor Adventure store has opened a donation page where people can give funds to Five Loaves.

The money will be used to provide tents and sleeping bags for the homeless people in the community.

The charity for the homeless and disadvantaged is located on the Main Street in Bray.

They provide hot breakfasts and dinners, as well as hot drinks and snacks, showers and fresh clothing, tents and sleeping bags, support in accessing local shelters, one-to-one support, and information and advice. They work with other services and refer clients as needed.

During cold weather last winter, as many as 15 people at a time were sleeping rough in the Bray area.

Wicklow Homeless Five Loaves receives a discount from Outdoor Adventures for good quality equipment suitable for very low temperatures and sleeping rough.

The number of people who sleep outdoors in the area fluctuates depending on various factors, including whether someone might offer them a bed or couch, and whether they can access sheltered accommodation.
