The Liam Tiny Kenny Memorial Run

The Liam Tiny Kenny Memorial run and show in aid of Rathdrum cancer support group in conjunction with the Wicklow vintage club and Liam Kenny’s family will take place on August 28th. Registration will take place from 11.30am and the run will be after the show Meeting at Ballinacor Community park A67WY83 vintage classic cars and tractors and lorries and motorbikes are welcome Refreshments served on the day Please adhere to current covid guidelines on the day

Avondale GAA club held their first club summer camp last week from Tuesday to Thursday with over 70 boys and girls taking part in the camp with fantastic hot weather. A big thank you goes to the club pro Gary Jameson who arranged all the games and the coaching of the kids. Also a big thank you goes to county football manager Gary Duffy for attending the camp to present gifts and prizes to the kids that took part. Thanks also to Centra Rathdrum who provided icecreams for the kids in the hot weather. Thank you to Chris Bolton from Rathdrum who attended the gaa camp to take photos of the kids during the camp

Avondale senior hurling team travelled to Aughrim County grounds for round two of the senior hurling championship last Saturday to play Eire Og Greystones. Avondale got off to a great start and by half time Avondale were winning on a scoreline of Avondale 0-08 Eire Og 0-05. In the second half a last minute goal in injury time deprived Avondale of their 1st win in the championship. Full time score was Avondale 0-16 Eire Og Greystones 2-12

Avondale senior footballer will start there championship campaign on Saturday 30th July 2022 in round one of the senior football championship in Aughrim county grounds with a throw in at 4.30pm against An Tochar Admission is ten euros Tickets can be purchased at the county grounds on the day of the match

Avondale Camogie club

The Nancy Murray cup All Ireland final awaits after a battle in Louth and a win for Wicklow saw the team through to the final where two Avondale players Thea Cullen and Emma Byrne will look to overcome a very strong Tyrone team in a bid for All Ireland glory. The final will take place on the 6th August. Time and venue to be confirmed well done to Thea and Emma and best of luck to you both in the final with your teammates on the 6th August

For all players taking part in camogie games its essential that the proper gear is worn in order to be allowed take part Skorts must be worn for all matches along with football socks . Socks and Skorts can be purchased from the O’Neill’s website. All is available in kids and adults sizes

Congratulations

Congratulations to Michael Dowling and Kieran Byrne who cycled 610km in 2 days from Malin head to Mizen head to raise money for two charities–well done Michael and Kieran.

Also congratulations to Liam Kelly who ran 4in4 and raised an unbelievable amount of money for charity He raised a total of €19,127.80.

Enda’s busking journey

Enda Kelly from Bray is to busk in ten Wicklow towns over the August bank holiday weekend in aid of Wicklow Hospice. He will be performing in Blessington, Aughrim, Tinahely, Baltinglass, Rathdrum, Arklow, Roundwood, Bray, Greystones and Newtown. So if you are around at any of the above towns please come out and donate to this man

The Wicklow hospice provides unbelievable assistance to people that are suffering with terminal or life threatening conditions and the Wicklow Hospice is a great service to have here in Co Wicklow So donate donate donate

Ella’s perfect attendance in school

Congratulations to Ella Breen from Our Lady’s School, Rathdrum who recently received a reward from the school principal Mrs Breda Sheehan for her 100% perfect attendance in primary school. Ella hadn’t missed on day of school from junior infants right up to sixth class. Well done Ella.

Bingo Spectacular

An Tóchar GAA are delighted to announce our annual bank holiday special event. This year we are running a Bingo Spectacular, held as part of the Roundwood Street Festival Saturday, July 30, in An Tóchar GAA Bingo Spec. is a night full of entertainment, music, dancing and prizes. The doors will open from 6.30 p.m. with Full Bar service and everyone is welcome to come straight after our Men’s Senior Championship Game (throw-in at 4.30 p.m. in Aughrim).

The bingo event will start at 8 p.m., so get there early to give yourself plenty of time to find a seat and get your bingo cards ready. There will be entertainment and music throughout the night with rounds including ‘Naughtys’, ‘90s’, ‘Sing Alongs’ and ‘Your Nanny’s Favorites’.

As we have friends in low places the winner of our "Your Nanny’s Favorites" Round will receive a pair of Garth Brooks tickets for his sold out Croke Park concert. Plenty of prizes are still to be announced. We will be revealing more soon.

Do not be disappointed, this will be a sell out and cannot be missed. Tickets available online, in Roundwood Post Office or in Eclectic CHT in Wicklow Town. This is an over 18s event I.D required.

Roundwood Festival

Roundwood Festival 2022 will take place on the 31st July in Roundwood Village from 2pm til late. The day will start with the usual fun and games in a new location–the field opposite Roundwood NS on the Lough Dan Road. Now is the time to start working on your scarecrows for the scarecrow competition! If you need straw for your masterpiece please call John on 086 8225705. Then erect your scarecrow inside the fence on Roundwood Street Festival Day.

Judging takes place on the day and the winners will be announced that evening. Two Prizes for the Best Scarecrow & the Most Topical! The Festival raffle tickets which is the main fundraiser for the Festival will be hitting the streets soon. Many thanks to our wonderful local businesses who generously support the festival by making financial donations or by sponsoring raffle prizes. These events could not happen without you! So please shop and socialise local folks so we can, in turn support our local businesses! The Festival is run by volunteers so if you are in a position to help out in distributing raffle tickets, volunteering on the day of the Festival or on the following tidy-up day or have any bright ideas to include into the Festival events please email info@roundwood.ie Your input and support will be greatly appreciated.

Lotto

Results of the draw held on Sunday 24th July. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 6, 22, 28 & 30. There were two match three winners, K.Crean and Martin & Sharon. Next week’s jackpot will be €19,300.

Pattern Day Walk

Tha annual Pattern Day Walk from Moneystown Community Centre to Lady’s Well Ballymanus Upper on Carrick Mountain will take place on Sunday 14th August leaving Moneystown at 6pm. The route is about 9 km return route to Moneystown (good walking shoes and waterproof clothing recommended and no dogs allowed) Suitable of older children accompanied by adults. The route is along the road then on Coillte roads. Lady’s well is an ancient well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an important site.

The Well was rediscovered in 2013 and there has been a walk every year or close to the original pattern day August 15th .There will be a short talk on the history and traditions of the holy wells including the Pre-Christian and Christians of this ancient site and also relevant local history.

If you want to play music, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, dancing etc were all part of the traditions of pattern days and visits to the well.

Social Whist

Next whist will be held on Wednesday July 27th at 8pm in the new parish hall come along and enjoy a night of cards with us.
