Heritage Week Free Event

Pattern Day Walk to Lady’s Well Carrick Mountain on Sunday, August 14, at 6 p.m. Meeting at: Moneystown School, A98VF83. The walk is approximately 9km in total. The well is marked on the Neville Maps of 1870 but the pattern day ended in 1798 till revived in 2013. The Walk includes a short talk in Pre-Christian and Christian traditions of the well, poetry and music. Refreshments afterwards in Moneystown Community Hall. Open to adults and accompanied children. From Monday, August 15, to August 30 you can drop your metal scrap up to the back of the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh (fundraiser for the Brockagh Resource Centre). Some of the items you can bring are Biscuit tins, steel oil tanks, steel window frames, steel coal bunkers, car batteries, radiators, Solid fuel cookers, Sheep wire, bicycles, old cars without the tyres, steel wheel barrows, golf irons, etc. No Fridges, Freezers, Cookers, Timber, Plastics or Tyres. Once the scrap is on the premises it cannot be removed by the public. CCTV is in operation for 24 hours. For more info call 040445600 or email us at brockaghoffice@gmail.com.

Brockagh Market and Car Boot

The Brockagh Market and Car Boot is once a month on the second Sunday (except Jan/Feb). Next market August 14 to August 

Open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tea, coffee and food snacks are available. Indoor and outdoor stalls with a variety of items for sale with plenty of bargains from gifts, clothes, plants, books, toys, aloe vera products, artwork, tools, household items etc. Free parking and customer toilet facilities.

The barrier will be locked from 6 p.m. Saturday evening till 8 a.m. Sunday morning. You can contact us by phone 0404 45600 (Wed-Friday a.m. $3 to 2 p.m.) or email car bootbrockagh@gmail.com. All stallholders must pre-book their space or no entry on the day.

Shared Workspace in the Brockagh Hub

The Brockagh Resource Centre has a new remote working hub catered for individual working professionals, students and corporate companies.

We have a mixture of Hot Desks, Dedicated (Weekly/Monthly) Desks, Pod and meeting rooms available with High Speed Broadband Connection. Under the National Connected Hubs Voucher Scheme you will receive three free days of hub use per person. Vouchers will be valid till the end of August. Register now as a Member on our connectedhubs.ie site to avail of the free vouchers and get an alert when your vouchers are available.

AA Meetings (Ongoing)

The Spirit of the River: a Quest for the Kingfisher.

Listen to the story of Declan’s quest to see and study kingfishers and his experiences with other wildlife along the river. Yoga Classes With Louise

Back in the Brockagh Resource Centre on September 15t. Call Louise at 087 6032202 to book your space this autumn. Booking is essential.

Chair/Seated Yoga: Tis is suitable for those who find a regular yoga class too strenuous, are recovering from injury or illness or are generally less active and mobile. Classes from 11.30 to 12.30 p.m.

Vinyasa Yoga: This practice will provide gentle stretching, improved strength and flexibility, as well as help students to find balance and calm in everyday life. Classes from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

Tidy Towns

We hope you enjoy our new seating funded by Laragh Glendalough Tidy Towns. Big thank you to Martin Stacey and Christopher Merrigan for their help with this TT project. Seating locations are Trooperstown Wood entrance, Knockfin and on Glendalough road. Take a minute and have a rest when you’re out for a walk.

Our next tidy up date is Thursday, August 4, at 7 p.m. As usual, meet opposite Lynhams and we will have the area tidy in no time at all.


Rathdrum Market

Rathdrum Market makes a return to Parnell Memorial Park on Friday, August 5, from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. with stalls to suit everyone.

Avondale GAA lotto – Results of draw on Tuesday, July 26. Jackpot: No winners. Numbers drawn were 5, 9, 19 and 20. Two match-three winners: Me and you c/o Catherine and Joe and Christine c/o Joe Kennedy. Thanks for all your continued support. Tickets can be purchased online up till 9 p.m. on the Tuesday night of the draw. Tickets can also be purchased in all business in the town. The next draw will be held on Tuesday, August 2, and the jackpot stands at €1,700.

The Avondale GAA club nursery continues every Saturday morning at 9.30 a.m. in the sports complex and it caters for 4-5 year old kids – it’s never too late to get your child involved to learn the skill of hurling and football.

Avondale juniors hurlers had a home match last Wednesday night against Arklow Rocks Parnells. At half time Arklow Rocks Parnells were leading on a score line of Avondale 0-06 (6) to Arklow Rocks 1-07 (10). Avondale came in to the second half and won the game on a scoreline of Avondale 2-11 (17) to Arklow Rocks Parnells 1-16 (19)

Avondale senior football team had a disappointed start to the senior football championship last Saturday in the county grounds in Aughrim against our neighbours An Tochar. Oisin McGraynor scored two great goals which at half time Avondale were down by two points.

Then it came to the second half of the match were Avondale rallied to full time where Avondale were 2-08 (14) to An Tochar 0-15 (15) which An Tochar won the first round of the senior football championship. For upcoming fixtures check the sports section of the Wicklow people newspaper for time and dates and venues and referees.

The Avondale senior football team received a new set of Jerseys that were sponsored by Séamus McGraynor. Thanks seamus.

Camogie Club news

The Nancy Murray cup final will be played on August 6 – Venue and time to be confirmed.

Best of luck to Thea Cullen and Emma Byrne from Avondale camogie club who will be wearing the blue and gold of Wicklow and will be playing a strong Tyrone team in a bid for all-Ireland Glory success for the garden county.

Wicklow SPCA Dog Show

Dog show will be held on Saturday, August 27, at Sharpeshill Animal Sanctuary, Ballygannon Mor, Rathdrum. A fantastic day out with your canine members of your family with nine brilliant categories to enter. Registration on the day will be from 11.30 a.m. with the dog show starting at 1 p.m.

Ballinacor Community Project

On August 7 from 1.30 p.m. till 4 p.m. at Ballinacor Community Field, Glenmalure there will be a family fun day with lots of stall from cake stalls and field games for all agesAll-Ireland camogie finals will be streamed live. There will be a dog show, registration will be from 2 p.m. and the show will start at 2.30 p.m. Raffle in Glenmalure hotel at 9.30 p.m. also there will be face painting and a barbecue and lots more family fun.

Ballinacor camogie club

The Car wash has being rescheduled to Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cars are €10 and jeeps €15.

Historical Society

Rathdrum Historical Society will restart their series of talks on September 5 in the RDA hall Annex Rathdrum. This is a preliminary notice full details of the programme of talks will be published in the next few weeks. Everyone is welcome to attend so please come and hear historical materials on local and national people places and events.

A prayer services and the blessing of the graves will take place in Whaley Abbey Cemetery on Wednesday, August 10, at 7.30 p.m.

The Liam ‘Tiny’ Kenny Memorial Run and show.

The Liam Tiny Kenny memoria run and show in aid of Rathdrum Cancer support in conjunction with Wicklow vintage club and Liam’s family takes place on August 28 Registration at 11.30 a.m. Run after the show meeting at Ballinacor community park Kirikee A67WY83. Vintage and classic cars and tractors and lorries and motorbikes etc. Refreshments served on the day.
