THE Irish United Nations Veterans Association: Post 21 Wicklow are currently looking to build a premises, to better serve the local community and their members.

Chairperson Viv Collins outlined that such a venue is badly needed to engage with their members.

“Having our own premises would be amazing,” he said. “We could host wider community events, support members, and hopefully grow membership numbers.”

With planning permission already granted, fundraising will be key to their efforts. As such, Post 21 Wicklow have teamed up with Cllr Stephen Stokes to host a table quiz on Wednesday, August 10 at 7.30 p.m. in Greystones Tennis Club.

All of the Post 21 members have served in the Irish Defence Forces, and all have served overseas on United Nations operations, including the Congo, Cyprus, Lebanon and Somalia. They also provide services such as help on pensions and social welfare, etc.

Cllr Stokes said: “The UN Veterans have given tremendous service to Ireland and world peace. It is only right that they get a premises to continue their good work. Hopefully this event will raise awareness of their endeavours, and raise vital funds.”
