Wonderful sunshine added to the terrific atmosphere at St. Mary’s and Peter’s Family Fun Day, which was held at the parish grounds and Árus Lorcáin, Castlepark.

There were fun and games for all the family, with face painting, a lucky dip, a candy floss machine, a magician show, a glamorous granny competition, a slush puppy machine and an afternoon disco among the many highlights.

The Family Fun Day organisers, who are a 27-strong group of volunteers, made food, tea, sandwiches and coffee available to the 150-200 people who were in attendance. The event was said to be a roaring success, with organisers expressing their thanks to the people of Arklow for a massive community effort.

Organising committee member Anne Carey said, “After a long break it was great to see the return of the Dun Day. Hopefully this will continue to be an annual event and thanks to all our local businesses who generously donated and our wonderful team of volunteers.”

According to Fr. Pádraig O’Cochláin, Moderator, Arklow Group of Parishes, “There was a great crowd at it, and a lovely atmosphere.

“It’s great to be able to host an event that can be enjoyed by all ages. It’s a pity that the All-Ireland stole a bit of our thunder!”
