A spokesperson for the IHWT said 'as we head into the winter months, horses that are most marginalised suffer and very rapidly become welfare emergencies in need of response, rescue, and respite.
At the welfare centre, we are caring for 79 horses currently. The cost to maintain care for this number along with delivering frontline critical services means IHWT need to actively seek new ways of continually raising funds.
' The IHWT are very appreciative to Tony O'Connor for generously painting and donating this commissioned piece for the Irish horses who will be in greatest need this winter.'
IHWT was established in 1999 and gained charitable status in 2002. The charity operates from its 68 acre farm in Woodenbridge in County Wicklow.
