THE small community of Lacken came together last Monday night to walk for the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service.

Boots’ chemists organized a 5km walk and Lesley Murphy decided to carry out a walk in her area as it was a cause close to her heart after losing her wonderful dad Philip Gallagher after a very short illness in 2019.

The walk was from Lacken Community Centre to Ballynultagh Gap car park on top of the hill above Lacken. Philip was a hill farmer who carried out a lot of work in the local community, so the route, of just over 5k, seemed appropriate.

Speaking about the night nurse service, Lesley said: “in 2019 over 2,250 nights of nursing was delivered to 696 families and we were one of these numbers. The support the night nurses gave to our family at the time was so compassionate and we just wanted to give something back to these wonderful people so they can carry on helping small communities like ours all over Ireland. We want to thank everyone for all their support.”
