ARKLOW’S Asgard Lodge Nursing Home held its ‘Summer Soirée’ last month, marking a return to family events at the home after a two-year hiatus.
The theme of the party was ‘summer garden’ and care staff decorated the grounds with floral arrangements. To mark the occasion, staff gave speeches thanking the families for coming and commemorated those lost during the pandemic.
Organisers tried to keep the event local, so they catered it themselves and sourced the food locally. Asgard chef John Mullane prepared the food, while music on the day was provided by Bri-Elle Greene Finn, daughter of Asgard’s hairdresser Bri-Anne.
Luke O’Brien, Activities Coordinator, said, “We weren’t sure if it was going to go ahead, with guidelines from the HSE being so fluid. We held it outdoors so that we could invite as many family members as possible.
“Our motto is home away from,” Luke added. “The comments and messages from family members afterwards were fantastic. Their joy really makes it all worthwhile. The event was a successful trial run of sorts and now the activities staff hope to hold a Halloween party.”
