ALEX Ludgate has been crowned the Wicklow Regatta Queen for 2022.
Alex was announced the winner on Saturday night in Wicklow Gaol. The independent judging panel were left with a difficult decision on selecting the Regatta Queen, as Alex faced fellow finalists Holly McGee and Leah Kavanagh.
Alex was handed her sash and crown by the joint 2018 Regatta Queens Casey Kelly and Angelica Einstein.
Members of the public were asked for their feedback regarding the Regatta Queen and this year each contestant represented a local club organisation or charity. Alex is from Wicklow town and is also a volunteer for Wicklow Tidy Towns, whom she was representing.
Wicklow Regatta Chair John Goodman stated: “It was great to be able to hold the Regatta Queen competition again and congratulations are passed onto Alex on her achievement. We also have to thank Casey Kelly and Angelica Einstein for all the great work they carried out over the past number of years since they were crowned the Regatta Queens of 2018.”
The festival programme is now available for purchase and details all the events and activities taking place during the week, culminating with the Splash Sunday taking place at Wicklow Harbour, followed by a spectacular fireworks display from the east pier at 11 p.m.
