THE four-star Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort in Blessington has been purchased by Singapore-based Dr. Stanley Quek and Peng Loh who have significant interests in the hospitality sector and deep personal connections to Ireland.

The 93-bedroom Tulfarris resort and 18-hole championship links golf course is set across 200 acres and comprises the original 18th century Manor House and separate hotel, four self-catering lodges and a golf clubhouse.

The Tulfarris lakeside estate is the fourth Irish hotel within the Mayrange Hospitality group that includes Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare, Castlemartyr Resort and Spa in Cork, and Trinity Townhouse in Dublin city centre. Last year, another iconic property, the Ring of Kerry Golf Course overlooking Kenmare Bay, was purchased by the group.

Tulfarris is managed by Darren Byrne and employs 153 full and part-time staff in high season. The hotel is renowned as a popular wedding venue and enjoys a strong corporate market for conferences and meetings. In recent years, Tulfarris played host for two years to the Euro Pro Tour on its Patrick J. Merrigan-designed golf course.

A significant refurbishment of the property was undertaken in recent years and the new owners plan to immediately implement further works as at a cost of €5million.

Dr. Quek was the Honorary Consul General representing Ireland in Singapore from 1994 to May 2000 and is presently the Chairman of The Ireland Funds Singapore which has raised more than S$5m since 2009 to support projects involving children with special needs and eldercare.

Commenting on the purchase, Dr Quek said: “We are very excited to be the new owners of Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort. The property compliments our interests in the South of Ireland and Dublin city, and shows our continued confidence in the Irish hospitality market. Tulfarris is sited in a super location, which is rich with history dating back to the 15th century. It is close to major attractions such as Glendalough and is within easy reach of Dublin and the rest of the country.”

Peng Loh is a dynamic award-winning hotelier and restaurateur who was born in Dublin to Singapore parents who were practicing medicine in Ireland at the time.

General Manager, Darren Byrne says: “The next chapter of Tulfarris will be safe in the hands of our new owners who really appreciate and understand the leisure and corporate market in Ireland and are committed to acquiring important properties that can benefit from their vision and investments.”
