The Cake Creator on Arklow’s Bridge Street won the Cake Shop of the Year at the Republic of Ireland Prestige Awards 2021/2022.

The Prestige Awards celebrates small and medium-sized enterprises consisting of localised businesses and sole traders, excelling in their market.

Owner Matthew Dent, a Birmingham native who moved to Gorey in 2009 and set up the shop in Arklow four years ago, said he’s happy receiving the award.

"It’s really good to get this recognition. We supply Pettitts SuperValu along with some hotels and restaurants and it was the public who voted for the award.

“They voted on a few criteria, customer service, innovation, uniqueness, and sustainability, and the email telling us we won said that we got the most votes. I’m really happy with it."

Mr Dent said that during lockdown he had an opportunity to create some new cakes for SuperValu and his vegan cheesecake, Irish cream biscuit bites, and modelling chocolates are being sold throughout Wicklow and Wexford.

He hopes to export some of his chocolate to the UK in December with the Better Food group interested in stocking his chocolate in 50 stores over there while also looking to get into more retails shops and supermarkets in Ireland.
