Newtown Juniors FC

Well done to Mikey Synnott and Dylan Dunleavy from our under-14 team who were part of the WDSL Kennedy Cup Squad that participated in the Kennedy Cup last week in Limerick. The team played five matches and the two lads played a part in all five games. Also, congratulations to three of our under-13s, Ryan McDonald, Leon O’Connor and Kaydin McMahon wo have all been selected on the under-13 WDSL Squad for the Galway Cup from August 3 to August 6 2022. The competition takes place at the Drom Soccer Park, home of Salthill Devon FC Also, if there are any businesses or companies who would like to help with sponsorship for any of the lads for their trip, please contact our secretary at 087 6987653.

The fixtures for the week ending Saturday/Sunday, June 25/26 are as follows. Under-13 Jako Cup Final vs Aughrim Rangers ko Saturday at 3.30 p.m.; under-15 Jako Cup Final vs Avonmore FC ko Saturday at 4.30 p.m.; under-14 Jako Final vs Arklow United B ko Sunday at 2.30 p.m. (Kick off Times are subject to change). All cup finals will be played at Celtic Park home of Arklow Celtic FC.

The club will be holding a coaching workshop on Monday, June 27, starting at 7 p.m. where all team coaches will be requested to attend. If interested in attending, please contact our secretary.

The Women’s team continue their training on Tuesdays 8.30 p.m. till 9.30 p.m. We are still on the lookout for new players and previous playing experience is not essential. If you are interested in playing, please contact Hughie at 087 6987653 for further information.

The club is holding a quiz night on Friday, July 15, in the Mount Kennedy Inn starting at 8 p.m. We have also organised for a DJ to play after the quiz. Cost will be €40 per team of 4 or €10 per person. Posters advertising this event will be up and about the town very soon. There will also be a raffle on the night, and we are currently collecting prizes for this. Proceeds from this event will be split between Newtown Juniors FC and St Catherine’s School, who have kindly agreed to come on board with us for this fundraiser. The interest and support for this event has been fantastic so far and it promises to be a great night. Further details regard this event will be posted in the coming weeks.

We have three players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Sara McLaughlin and Oscar Daly from the Development Squad and Lucas Dowdall from the under-13 team. Happy birthday everyone from all at Newtown Juniors FC.

Women’s Basketball

Join the Wicklow Wolves Women’s Basketball group every Tuesday evening in the community centre sports hall in Newtownmountkennedy between 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Learn how to play or brush up on those basketball skills. GAA club news

There will be a Special Meeting of Newtown GAA Club will be held on Wednesday, June 22, in clubhouse to discuss men’s Adult football. Everyone welcome.

All at Newtown GAA/LGFA would like to wish Emma Walsh and Sophie Lacey together with Wicklow Minor ladies manager Dominic Leech the very best of luck as they play Louth in their Leinster LGFA Minor semi-final in Lordship, Co Louth Wednesday the 22nd at 7.30 p.m.

Mini magpies continues under the guidance of our club GPO Jackie Kinch at 11 a.m. every Saturday morning for boys and girls aged 4-6.

The under-8/10 girls had a blitz on Saturday in Rathnew, all the girls played really well. Training is on Saturday mornings at 11 all newcomers welcome.

Under-7 and under-9 training continues each Monday at 6.30 p.m.; under-11 boys training Monday at 6.45 p.m.; under-12 girls train Tuesday evenings at 6.30 p.m.; under-13 boys start training this week on Monday at 7 p.m.; under-15 training Tuesday at 6.30 p.m.; under-16 girls training every Monday and Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; The ladies and the minor girls continue to train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30 p.m.; The senior men are training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30 p.m.;

The under-9s had a special visit from a Senior Wicklow Manager, Alan Costello during the week. All the kids were delighted to see Alan.

Our summer camp is back with a bang this year from July 4 to July 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lotto – The lotto jackpot was not won last week, the numbers were 2, 5, 15 and 27. Six match-three winners. This week’s jackpot is €7,200. The Newtown GAA lotto draw is held every Monday evening at 8 p.m., tickets are only €2. The next lotto draw will be Monday, June 20.

Tickets are available to buy in local outlets including Newtown Credit Union, Nolan’s post office, Druids well, Eugene’s food store, Marios, Pat Toolan Bookmakers, Ultima oil, Ann Duffys flower shop, The Mountkennedy Inn, The Max. The lotto numbers are between 1 and 30.


Cancer Support

A big thank you to Sr. Peggy from Suaimhneas Chaoimhin of Glendalough on the very kind donation received from proceeds of the concert which was held in Brockagh Church on Friday the 3rd of June. A fantastic concert. Well done to all the participants and the organisers. We very much appreciate your support.

Music in Calary

The second concert of our 2022 series will be at 8 pm on Friday 24 June in Calary Church when the performers will be Maria Ryan and Jane Hackett (violins), Beth McNinch (viola), Katie Tertell and Annette Cleary (cellos) from Musici Ireland together with Eamonn Sweeney (guitar). Results of the draw held on Sunday 19th June. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 10,17,22 & 27. There were four match three winners, Patrica Brady, Aymen Alzaubi, Cecilia Reed & Cliona Gray. Next week’s jackpot will be €18,100.

Roundwood set dancing has resumed on Thursday nights in the parish hall starting at 9pm. We look forward to welcoming back our usual dancers and also any new comers if they would like to join us, are always welcome. Admission €5.

45 Card Game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8pm. Teas served. All are welcome.

Mobile Library

Wicklow County Council Mobile Library will be in Roundwood Village on Thursday 30th June from 10am until 11.15am and also from 2.10pm until 4.30pm. Come along and join the library. It’s a free service and is a fantastic way to pick up any book that suits your reading interests.
