Mass Schedule

Parish of Avoca Mass Schedule for August: Saturday Vigil Templerainey 7 p.m. each Saturday; Sunday morning Barranisky 10 a.m. on August 7 and August 21; Ballycoog 10 a.m. on August 14 and August 28; Avoca 11.30 a.m. each Sunday.

Weekday Schedule remains as is, i.e.: Monday Templerainey 10 a.m.; Tuesday Avoca 10 a.m.; Wednesday Templerainey 10 a.m.; Friday Avoca 10 a.m. On a day when there is a funeral, the Weekday Mass moy be cancelled.

Fr Michael will take up his appointment to Avoca Parish from the beginning of August. The above Mass Schedule will be in place from that time and will be reviewed in the autumn. The regular Mass schedule must be such that one priest on his own can sustain it.

Old Kilninor Historical Society

The society are holding an Ecumenical Service in Kilninor Cemetery on Sunday, August 14, at 2 p.m. Fr Denis Browne and Rev Canon Arthur Barrett will officiate at the Ceremony and the blessing of the Stations of the Cross. There will an Information and History Board will be unveiled also.

Tea and Light Refreshments will be served afterwards in Ballyfad Community Centre. Come along and be part of something special.

Coolgreany/Knockgreany residents

A residents meeting is to be held on Thursday, August 11, at 8 p.m. at May Byrne House to look at road safety issues in the village. Speeding, and a lack of footpaths have been of particular concern for some of the residents. We look forward to seeing you to discuss these and any other issues you might have regarding road safety.

Road Bowling and Skittles

A Road Bowling and Skittles competition will take place at Nolan’s Annagh on Sunday, August 21, at 4 p.m., with all proceeds going to children with Special Needs. The organising committee are looking for all the support they can get for this very worthy cause. Please come along and support.


The local community extend their deepest to Catherine McCarthy and family, Inch on the sad passing of her daughter Sharon Cullen, Killenagh, whose funeral Mass took place at St Michael’s Church, Gorey on last Tuesday, May she rest in peace.

Avondale under-13 football team finished up their league campaign during the week with a win against their neighbours Clara Gaels Avondale under-13 finished third in the league campaign and now are awaiting the start of the under-13 football championship

Avondale camogie club

Avondale camogie club are holding a monster raffle on Saturday, August 13, at the Avondale GAA sports complex in Rathdrum the raffle will have 10 prizes up for grabs. Tickets can be purchased from any club member or players. If you’re not in you can’t win.

Hard luck to the County Wicklow camogie team who lost out by one point to Tyrone in the Nancy Murray cup final last Saturday Avondale camogie club were represented on the team by Thea Cullen and Emma Byrne They both done their club and county proud to get to the final and it was a great achievement by both of the them and their teammates from all over county Wicklow to be on the panel for the start of it.

Community First Responders

A big thank you to Caroline Kinsellla and family and friends who gave a big donation this week after running and walking the Women’s Mini Marathon 2022 to the Rathdrum community first responders team to continue their work in keeping people alive and safe in the work the volunteers do in the Rathdrum area.

Summer Songs Rathdrum

Thanks to Wicklow County Council Arts Department and the RDA for organising four days of family fun in the Parnell Memorial Park from Thursday, August 18, to Sunday, August 21. There will be fun for all the family with workshops, live music performances and activities for all ages.

On Thursday the 18th we welcome the Penstons to the stage in the Parnell Memorial Park at 5.30 p.m. till 7 p.m. Throughout Friday the 19th there are workshops in the park with evening entertainment by Robbie Walsh and Seán Fox at 7.30 p.m.

On Saturday the 20th there will be lots of fun for children of all ages with Sarah Sparkles, DJ Mick for a Tiny Disco and crown making workshops to name a few. The highlight of the day will be renowned singer Paddy Casey taking stage at 7.30 p.m.

Sunday the 21st also has a number of activities in the park during the day including Mia Parsons Quartet from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to finish off what promises to be a great weekend entertainment in Rathdrum. All events are free except Paddy Casey for which there is a €15 fee for tickets.
