Summer Festival

Annacurra Summer Festival and field day are looking for items for the stalls for the field day. Plants/ cakes/ bric-a-brac/ White elephant/Bottles/books. Raffle Tickets on sale soon. All donations gratefully accepted. Field date June 19.

Please support the children of Annacurra National School by donating items for our clothing collection fundraiser on 8th, 9th and 10th of June.

Accepted items for donating are: wearable items of clothing, paired shoes, handbags, belts, towels, curtains and blankets. (No duvets or No pillows).

Maybe you might look at sorting out your wardrobe / hotpress to see if you have any items you can donate?. Every bag of items you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Donated bagged items can be dropped off at the school hall doors between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm on Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th or Friday 10th of June.

Tinahely Craft Market

The craft market will now be open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The venue is the old Pop up shop opposite the butchers. A wide range of locally made crafts are available, so please come along and support your local community.

Annacurra Bowls Club.

We extend our sympathy to our colleague Nancy Linehan on the passing of her brother Liam Carroll RIP.

We also extend our sympathy to Anne Byrne on the deaths of her sister Patricia Miller and brother Paddy Mulhall who bought died on the same day RIP.

GAA club news

Lotto - Results Monday 30th May. Numbers were 1–8–15–24. No Jackpot Winner. 2 Match 3 winners (share €200) John Sweeney, Annacurra John O’Neill, Kilpipe. Next weeks jackpot €6,900.

Congratulations to the intermediate and junior teams who had great wins over Shillelagh-Coolboy and Avoca in their respective leagues.

Best wishes to Liam Molloy, Cian Delaney, Shay Killoran, TJ Hynes and Jack Wolohan and the Garden County Academy under 14 team who play in the Jim Power tournament this weekend.

Fixtures this week, Juniors v Tinahely tomorrow (Thursday) at 7:30 in Annacurra. Intermediate v Ballymanus on Saturday in Annacurra at 7pm. The club would like to wish Pat O’Neill all the best on his recovery.

Finally, after a very difficult week, the club sends its condolences to Anne Byrne and her family on the very sad passing of her sister Patricia and brother Paddy. Kilcommon BBQ

The Kilcommon BBQ is back on Sunday 12th June. Gourmet burger and delicious salads and dessert will be served from 1-3 pm. COst €20 Kid meals €5. All are welcome. Tickets available at the gate.

AUGHRIM

Mass of the Angels

Mass of the Angels will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11, at 8 p.m. in church of the Most Sacred Heart Aughrim. This special celebration of Mass will be offered for all families in our locality who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, lost a baby around the time of birth or who have lost a child who died in infancy. Hymns during Mass will be sung by the Avondale Voices Choir. All are welcome to attend this special Mass.

Yoga with Yvonne

Mixed level classes on Mondays at 9.30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and yoga for Beginner/Improvers on Wednesdays at 6.50 p.m. All classes are live-streamed for those who wish to practice from home.

Town and Country Market

Aughrim Town and Country market is back in full swing. The market takes place in the Pavilion, Rednagh Road, on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There is a great selection of fresh vegetables, floral arrangements, free range eggs, honey, freshly baked cakes and treats, plus wooden products, clothing, jewellery and also Richard’s range of delicious take away eats.

GAA news

Congratulations to Aughrim clubman John Keenan, who had an outstanding performance as referee in the Munster Hurling Final. This was one of the most entertaining finals ever and John’s contribution played a huge part in this hurling classic. John certainly on this performance must be a strong contender for to referee the hurling all-Ireland final this year.

Our adult hurling team had a comfortable win over Knockananna last week and are away this Wednesday, June 8, against St Pat’s. Please try and get along to support. Our Junior C football team got a walkover against Coolkenno last week. Well done to Alex Kavanagh, who was on the Wicklow minor hurling team who played Laois in the Celtic Cup Final last week.

A big thank you to everyone who organised, sponsored, or walked and contributed in anyway to make our annual Walkathon fundraiser, it was such a great success again. This fundraiser is the brainchild of Donal Linehan and we thank him in particular. The club would like to thank the whole Aughrim community for their continued support for this event.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in Aughrim Sports Club lotto on Monday, May 30, were 4, 5, 9 and 16 the jackpot was not won. There were two match winners: Josie O’Byrne and Doireann O’Brien (online). The jackpot for June 6 is €8,750.

People now have the facility to do the Aughrim Sports Club lotto online. Just go to clubforce.com Aughrim Sports club lotto and take it from there.

The weekly lotto supports Aughrim camogie club, Aughrim GAA club, Aughrim Rangers Soccer club and Aughrim sports complex. People, who support the weekly lotto are lending support to the local sports clubs who are very much part of the community.

COOLGREANY

Fun Day

A Fun Day will be held at Tara, Ballyfad (Y25 CX52) on Saturday, June 11, between midday and 4 p.m. The entertainment will include barbecue, bake stall, lucky dip, bottle stall, children’s games, face painting etc. Subscriptions: Adults €10 including barbecue, coffee and cake, Children €5 including barbecue, juice and cake. All proceeds in aid of Inch Parish Church.

Congratulations and birthday wishes to Caoimhe Brennan, Thomastown, who celebrates her sixth birthday on June 9.

Exam time

We send good wishes to all of the students who are sitting their Leaving and junior exams in the coming weeks, we hope they all do very well and have a great future in their further education as they move on.

Tidy Towns.

Coolgreany Village is getting ready for the Tidy Towns competition which takes place in June, we are working through the flower beds and getting some painting done, we could do with a few more volunteers to help out in each area please.

In and around Coolgreany village, the volunteers that came out have picked over 30 bags of litter and this week we will be out again so if you have a free hour please join us. Bags and gloves can be collected at Vera’s.

Community Employment

Two Fás worker are badly needed for the village, please call Siobhán at 087 1145021. volunteers are needed to pick more litter and we are looking for a few people on each road to help out with flower beds and tidy grass verges, please don’t leave it all to the grannies and great grans.

Sympathy

The local community extend their deepest sympathy to the Hannon and McGuire families on the sad passing of Jacinta Hannon, Johnstown, whose burial took place in St Gabriel’s Cemetery, Arklow last Friday.
