GAA club news

Lotto – Results Monday, July 18. Numbers drawn were 9, 17, 23 and 24. Match-three winners: Barry Doyle, Clonskeagh. No jackpot winner. Next week’s jackpot €7,950. Draw held on Monday night.

Our Minor team had a good win away on Monday night in the B Championship. Final score was Annacurra 7-11 Clan na Gael 0-9. Our junior team unfortunately lost to Avoca on Thursday last by five points. They travel to face Blessington in the league quarter final on Thursday evening. Our under-13s had a good win at home against Tomnafinogue on Friday, final score 4-14 to 1-7.

Tinahely coffee morning

Tinahely Tidy Towns are holding a coffee morning fundraiser, in the Courthouse Arts Centre on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come along and support.

Tinahely Craft Market

The craft market is now open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The venue is the old pop up shop opposite the butchers. There is a great selection of beautifully crafted pieces which make ideal gifts. Please come along and support your local artisans.

We will be showing all our talented crafts people work in the Craft Marquee at the Tinahely show this Bank Holiday Monday.

The Crafty Kids club is on Friday, August 12. The club will run from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Age seven upwards. €15 includes materials. Have fun making dreamcatchers and wreaths. Contact 085 7239212 to book.

Sports Day

Aughrim GAA and camogie club are combining to organise a sports day in the Sports Complex on Saturday, August 20, from 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Further details available later.

Town and Country Market

Aughrim Town and Country market continues every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a great selection of fresh vegetables, floral arrangements, free range eggs, honey, freshly baked cakes and treats, plus wooden products, clothing, jewellery and also Richard’s range of delicious take away eats. Lotto

The numbers drawn in Aughrim Sports Club lotto on Monday, July 17, were 3, 12, 15 and 17. The jackpot was not won. There were two match-three winners: Paul Cullen online, Ailish and Tony c/o E Lawlor. The jackpot for July 25 is €9,800. People who support the weekly lotto are lending support to the local sports clubs who are very much part of the community.

The blessing of the graves will take place in Barranisky on July 31 at 3 p.m.

Engagement Ring Found

An engagement ring was found on Sunday, June 26, in St Mary’s and St Patrick’s Church Avoca. The ring can be returned once a detailed description has been given. Please contact Evelyn Stewart, the church Sacristan at 0402 35851 so that the ring can be reunited with its owner.

Sympathy

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of John Keogh, Emmet Place, Carnew, who died recently and was buried on Tuesday in Kilavaney cemetery.

GAA lotto

Carnew GAA lotto was not won numbers were 15, 17, 27 and 32, lucky dips were Paul Kelly and Wally Power. The next draw is August 1 and the jackpot is €11,200, tickets can be bought online or in any of the local shops.

Split the pot

Carnew Back Alley Development fund are holding a split the pot for the summer months which started last Friday and the winner was Angela Cushen winning €85, congratulations Angela. Tickets are €2 and can be bought in Centra, Candys, Victor Young and Carnew Training and Development Centre.

They are also holding a Mayoral campaign with the following taking part, Bert Cogley, Jimmy Reid, Chuckie House and Majella Walsh with various fundraisers, Bert started his with a coffee morning last Friday in Chillax Centre, thanks to everyone for their support.

Askamore Social Dance

There will be a social dance in Askamore Hall on Friday, July 29. Doors will open at 9 p.m. and dancing will start at 9.30 p.m. Music by Andy Feery. Admission: €10. Refreshments will be served.

Dances of Universal Peace

80th birthday

Happy 80th birthday to Mick Byrne, Knocknalour of Kilrush Drama Group. Mick is director of Gorey’s Little Theatre group’s performance of ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ starring father and son Garry and Garrett Lombard, and some of Kilrush drama group crew are helping back stage. The play is on from July 27 to July 30 inclusive at 8 p.m., admission is €5. Chair. Cathy Tighe celebrated a special birthday also.

Outdoor Brass Quintet Concert

We are pleased to announce that our next music event is scheduled for Sunday, August 14, in the grounds of Coollattin House. The concert will commence at 3 p.m. A journey through time featuring Baroque to Pop, Classical to Jazz by the Irish Brass Ensemble.

Community Garda Pop-Up

A Community Garda Pop-Up Station meeting will be held in the May Byrne House on Friday, July 29, between 2 p.m. and 3.30 p.m., where members of Gorey Garda Station will be in attendance to help out with any form filling, and answer any questions relative to our area. Everyone welcome.

Tractor/Car Road Run

A Road Run will take place from Merrigan’s Field in Coolgreany on Sunday, August 7, with registration at 12.30 p.m. and run starting at 2 p.m. The entry fee is €20 with all proceeds going to St David’s Church Johnstown, Vehicle Insurance is necessary for all vehicles participating, refreshments will be served afterwards. Golden Circle

Golden Circle social group are going to Avondale Tree Top on August 24 with bus leaving Tesco at 10 a.m. The entrance price is €12.

Coolgreany/Knockgreany

Residents Meeting to be held on Thursday, August 11, at 8 p.m. at May Byrne House to look at road safety issues in the village. Speeding, and a lack of footpaths have been of particular concern for some of the residents. We look forward to seeing you to discuss these and any other issues you might have regarding road safety.

Tidy Towns

Coolgreany Village is getting ready for the Tidy Towns Competition which takes place in June, we are working through the flower beds and getting some painting done, we could do with a few more volunteers t o help out in each area please.

In and around Coolgreany village, the volunteers that came out have picked over 30 bags of litter and this week we will be out again so if you have a free hour please join us. Bags and gloves can be collected at Vera’s.
