Bowls Club

It’s with great sadness we hear of the death of our colleague Jimmy O’Neill. Jimmy and his wife Breda joined our club when it was founded in 1998. He was a very strong bowler and won numerous prizes along with being a fantastic team player for our inter club matches. We extend our sympathy to Breda and all the family. May he rest in peace.

Lotto results Monday, August 8. Numbers were 2, 10, 13 and 17. No jackpot winner. Match-three winners Chris McGrath and Monica Walsh. Next week’s jackpot €8,400.

Our under-13s had a great opening round win in the championship away to Baltinglass last week. Final score 2-10 to 7-12. Well done, lads.

The club held its Lá na gClub on Saturday which doubled as a day of presentations to all the juvenile teams. We were delighted to be joined by Davy Fitzgerald on the day to present the medals to the kids. In the afternoon, our chairman Michael Doyle’s team were victorious in the Ciaran Shannon Cup. After the cup was presented, we moved across to the Saltee where the hard working Alan Nolan and Jon Hynes worked wonders on the barbecues keeping everyone fed. The medals were given out to last year’s junior championship winners with awards given out to Adrian Shannon (Most Improved Player), Rob Davy (Young Player of the Year) and Clive Horan (Player of the Year). A sincere thanks to the Saltee and to everyone who gave up time to run the event. A lot of work went on behind the scenes making it the success it was.

We were also very saddened to hear of the passing of club Vice-president Jimmy O’Neill on Saturday. Jimmy was on a very successful Annacurra team in the 1950s that won a county intermediate championship and played in a senior final. His support for the club never wavered and the club wish to pass on it sincere condolences to Breda, Patrick, Noel, Geraldine, Elaine and all their families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
