Boats’ blessing

The Blessing of the Boats will take place at Arklow Harbour on Sunday, July 31 at 1.30p.m.

Arklow RNLI Open Day

Arklow RNLI has organised a low-key return for its annual Maritime Festival, which has been missing from the calendar since the start of the pandemic.

On Sunday, July 31, visitors are welcome to an Open Day at the RNLI station, where they will get to visit their volunteers and boats.

There will be lots of fun for all the family and all donations will be very welcome after a very difficult two years for the charity that saves lives at sea 365 days a year.

MABS is offering Money Management talks to all local groups.

South Leinster Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) is the State’s money advice service, guiding people through dealing with debt and support with money management.

They have offices at 2 The Boulevard, Quinsboro Road, Bray. See mabs.ie.

The MABS Helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Grow

Grow Mental Health’s Arklow Community Group is holding in-person meetings at a new venue weekly on Mondays at 10 a.m. at the Arus Lorcan community centre on Castle Park.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings which will explore positive mental health, wellbeing and recovery. Meetings are free to attend.

Beach cleans

Arklow Coastcare, with the help of volunteers from Sunbeam House and the National Learning Centre, cleans Arklow South Beach every Thursday lunchtime from 1.30 p.m. All are welcome.

Tidy Towns

Arklow Tidy Town’s mission is to improve the landscape in the town of Arklow for residents and visitors alike.

They meet each Tuesday in season to carry out various projects around the town.

Their CE scheme carries out essential landscape maintenance and litter control all over the town on a daily basis.

Writing club

Come join the Arklow Library Writer’s Group for a safe environment to share and improve on your writing. All levels welcome and no booking is required.

My Open Library has also resumed, meaning those with MOL access cards have access to the library from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Golden Circle social outing

The Golden Circle social group is open to members of all ages from Arklow and surrounding areas.

The committee of the Golden Circle social group are starting to plan trips and events for later this year.

There is an autumn holiday to Sligo planned for October 2 to 6.

The bus is filling up guickly for both events, so please contact Gertie at 083 4042746 if you would like to join in.

MS support group

The Arklow MS Support Group meets on Thursday mornings at 11 a.m. for a coffee and a chat at the Arklow Bay Hotel and for a Zoom call each Friday at 11 a.m.

Family fun at the library

Arklow Library hosts Family Fun Time every Saturday from 11 a.m. with stories, crafts and jigsaws.

There is also Storytime at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Movie Club for ages three and up at 3.30 p.m. on Fridays.

Arklow Bridge Club

Arklow Bridge club is inviting guests to come and join them for live bridge on Tuesdays at 7.15 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church Dublin Road. This invitation extends for the summer months.

All levels of bridge players are welcome.

A joker system exists for players attending on their own.

Competition results are available online via www.bridgewebs.com/arklow/.

Hands can be found, and outcomes compared.

Asgard Bridge Club

Asgard Bridge Club host live bridge on Mondays in the Presbyterian Church building at 7.15 p.m.

New members are always welcome.

Support for new mothers

La Leche League Arklow meet in-person on the third Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at May Byrne Trust House in Coolgreany.

There is also a Zoom meeting at 8.30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month.

Men’s Shed

Arklow Men’s Shed meets at Monument Lane, Arklow, and is a place that brings men together, so they can sit, work, talk and enjoy companionship.

Samaritans

East Coast Samaritans, based in Arklow, offer emotional support to their callers through telephone calls and email.

They can be contacted 24/7 by calling 116 123.

Arklow Cancer Support

Arklow Cancer Support is offering one-to-one counselling face to face or remotely for cancer patients or family members.

It also offers bereavement counselling for anyone affected by cancer, plus their volunteers drive patients for their daily radiation therapy.

If you are interested in joining the group meetings, you can do so any Thursday night at 7.30 p.m.

You do not have to be a registered client to join.

Their drop-in Friday events are also open to all, as well as art, social media courses, sound meditation, reflexology, lymphoedema support, wig fitting, and bra and prosthesis support.

Opening hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

‘Let’s Sing’

‘Let’s Sing’ is back every Thursday morning in Arus Lorcain. Sing a variety of songs – old and new – in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere at a cost of just €5 per week.

The Arklow Craft Fair takes place in Bridgewater Shopping Centre from noon to 6 p.m. across the first Saturday and Sunday of each month.

Arklow 68 Bridge Club

Arklow 68 Bridge Club are back to in-person bridge every Wednesday at 7.15 p.m. at the Arklow Presbyterian Church Hall, Dublin Road.

Junior parkrun

Arklow junior parkrun takes place every Sunday morning at 9.30 a.m. at the Duck Pond.

This is a 2k event for juniors only, aged between four and 14 years old.
