Ross Town still seek first victory

NEW ROSS Town just can't buy a win. The Premier Division's basement side suffered a fifth straight defeat of the season on Sunday last as their search for a top flight point continued.

With third-placed side Campile United coming to town at the weekend, hopes wouldn't have been too high for their losing streak to come to an end, but the New Ross men pushed their visitors to the limits before being edged out 43.

That victory for United sees them ease into third spot, five points behind joint leaders Shamrock Rovers and North End United, but it leaves the Town propping up the table.

The basement club can at least draw consolation from the fact that Gorey Rangers and Forth Celtic, their two nearest rivals, also endured fruitless weekends.

Rangers came undone against Park Hotspur. Seán Pailing, Jason Leniston and Darren Lambert all got on the scoresheet to ensure that the home side enjoyed a 3-1 victory against the strugglers.

A trip to New Ross proved to be Forth Celtic's downfall as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat against New Ross Celtic. Eoin Rhodes bagged a brace against the tenth-placed side, with Mikey Grangel and Donnacha O'Connor also registering singles.
