The expected Wexford reunion in League One across the water was unfortunately put on hold last Saturday when an unplayable pitch forced the postponement of Rochdale's clash with Fleetwood Town.
Ryan Delaney from New Ross was set to lock horns with Kevin O'Connor of Screen, less than twelve months after both were key figures in the Cork City defence en route to an admirable league and cup double.
Delaney moved on from Burton Albion after his loan term on Leeside expired, dropping down a division on a two and a half year deal with the guarantee of regular playing time.
Meanwhile, O'Connor has been farmed out on loan by Preston boss Alex Neil until the end of the season, although a permanent move could be on the cards as the Deepdale crew seem to be top heavy with defenders after a few experienced players returned from injury.
The Rochdale pitch was like a throwback to those grass-free fields of the 1970s in their 1-0 FA Cup replay win over Millwall.
And hopefully it will be in better nick on Sunday when Ryan and his colleagues are set to face the might of Spurs in the fifth round.
