A talented young defender from Clonroche has completed a dream move to Premier Division club Leicester City, winners of the title in sensational circumstances in 2016.
Darragh O'Connor, who has featured prominently for Wexford F.C. in their current Division 1 league campaign, signed on the dotted line last week and will link up with the English club's development squad.
It's the first professional contract for the one-time Cloughbawn G.A.A. player who arrived in Ferrycarrig Park as an amateur in January after spending some time with Shamrock Rovers.
O'Connor had featured with the Tallaght club's Under-19 side in 2018, and he returned to his native south-east in a bid to gain first team experience in the unforgiving environment of second-tier domestic football.
And he clearly did enough to attract the attention of Leicester City scouts in his 20 games in the Wexford F.C. defence, featuring mainly in one of the centre-half positions.
The manager at Ferrycarrig Park, Brian O'Sullivan, wished him well. 'He was a player who got better every week. His commitment and behaviour was always first class and it's a great opportunity for him.'
