There was a big crowd in attendance for the final meeting of the year at Enniscorthy dog track to enjoy an eleven-race programme over several different distances.
The last winner of the year saw the Matthew Fanning-owned Harriestown Star score a well-deserved victory, as this fellow has given his owner a fantastic year of sport, including going several rounds of the Irish Derby and putting up some fine performances in Shelbourne Park.
Star was away from traps quickly and cut straight across to the inside rail to lead. He ran on strongly to hold Fagans Sparrow by one and a half lengths to bring his winning tally into double figures in a time of 29.34 -30 slow.
Proceedings got off to a quick start when Karlow Mike led the field a merry dance to score a good win from the running-on Piercestown Mike in a fast 29.16 -30.
The first of the 575 contests was race three, and the Néidín Murray and Richard McCann-owned Zoe's Charm was stepping up in distance for the first time, having a great battle with hot favourite On The Tools as they matched strides to the third bend.
Zoe's asserted to take the lead and stride on to score by three lengths, with Saunders Pearl getting up for second.
Race five saw the second 575 contest, and Sheilas Machine set the early fractions and continued to lead until the last corner when Minnies Baikal ranged upsides and proved the stronger up the home straight to score going away.
Sheilas owner Brendan Frayne got quick compensation in the next race, however, as his Zalas Girl also went up fast from traps to lead and was not for catching as she ran out a clear winner.
Trainer Anton Butler's runners are in great form of late, and Hollylake Curly followed up his fine win the week previous when taking race ten - a hot A2 - when making use of his early pace to lead before running on well to hold Karlow Barry snugly in the end in a fast 29.12 -30 slow.
Race nine saw another trap six winner as Ballinaboola Rum made the bend in front to score a convincing five and a half length win in a good 29.29 -30 slow.
Another season has come to an end and there was some great racing throughout the year. We now look forward to next season which gets under way in January.
Important notice: on Saturday, January 4, in the Riverside Park Hotel at 7.30 p.m., there will be a public information meeting. All owners, trainers and track supporters, please support your local track by attending.
