THE TOP Juvenile players from Wexford played in the Leinster championships from December 27 to 29, a competition to find the best players in each age group in the province.

In the Under-11 age category, the number one seed, Evan Byrne from Gorey, did the double. He won the boys' singles title 21-9, 21-13 in the final. He also won the boys' doubles title, with Gorey partner Seán Bass.

Evan Byrne also reached the semi-final of the Under-13 boys' singles where he lost to number one seed Des Duggan from Dublin. In the other semi-final, Jack Nolan from Gorey lost out to the number two seed, Ben O'Shea from Dublin.

In the boys' doubles, James McKenzie and Robert Cogley from Taghmon reached the final where they also lost out to the Dublin duo of Des Duggan and Ben O'Shea, 2110, 21-18.

In the Under-13 girls' events, Clodagh Dunne from Taghmon was hot favourite in both the singles and doubles. She duly took both titles comfortably, winning 21-6, 21-8 in the singles final, and then teaming up with Leah Auld from Kildare to take the doubles title, 21-11, 21-11, in the decider.

Clodagh Dunne was back in action in the Under-15 girls' singles and doubles. In the singles final she lost out to number one seed Kate Frost from Dublin, but teamed up with her final opponent to take the doubles title. This meant that Clodagh took three titles from these Leinster championships.

Playing with Donal O'Leary from Louth, Noel reached the final of the boys' doubles. Unfortunately, Noel and Donal lost 21-14, 21-19 to Satchel Madden and Paul Reynolds from Dublin.
