RACING795 - Sunday, December 16, was a busy day for Racing795 on the running front. In the morning Mike Ryan, Orla Thompson, Niall O Muirí and Yvonne Dunne ran the Ballycarney to Bunclody 10k for cancer research.

Orla was second in the ladies' race and Mike was third in the men's. Niall also had a strong finish. Special mention to Yvonne who competed in her first 10km in style.

In the afternoon just up the road, Brian O'Shaughnessy competed for the club in the Senior cross-country over 10km, finishing in 21st place.

Congratulations from all at Racing795 to Tom Hogan, running in the S.B.R. colours, on winning his fifth Senior title. Tom's wife, Dena Hogan, also had a strong run in the ladies to finish seventh.

The Racing795 children's Christmas outing took place recently and was a huge success, with goodies and treats for all after a walk through Kilbrannish woods. Thanks to Yvonne Dunne and her team for organising this.

Congratulations to Rudolf Brinkman who recently completed his Cycling Ireland Trail Cycle leader training. Rudolf is one of our most experienced mountain bikers and his knowledge and expertise is a valuable asset to the club.

The club training duathlon has been pencilled in for February 17, starting at Spellman Park, Kildavin, with sign-on at 9.30 a.m. and race start at 10 a.m. This has proved very popular with local athletes from many clubs and disciplines in the area in years past.

It's an open training exercise involving a 3km run, 25km cycle and a 3km run to finish. Non-club members/potential future club members are welcome to attend, but please contact us to register your participation.

Core and strength circuits start back on January 3 - see the club forum for more details.

Well done Stephen Ainsworth, Niamh O'Brien and Catherine O'Connor for competing in the Senior cross-country. Stephen finished 18th which is a really fantastic result given the standard of the race. He ran steady all the way over the tough 10km course, picking up places towards the latter half of the race with a sprint finish to secure his top 20 place.

Catherine finished in 14th place and Niamh, making a welcome return to cross-country, was 16th. It was a good afternoon of racing on a tough but very scenic course up in hills beyond Enniscorthy.

The club will be represented at the cross-country championships on Sunday, January 6, in Lingstown. Racing starts that day at 12 noon with the Masters and Junior ladies, followed by Masters and Junior men, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 relays. For details contact Catherine on 0863899523, Jimmy on 086-3864265, or Dave on 085-1621700.

The remaining three rounds of the Juvenile league will be as follows: Sunday, January 13, St. Paul's, venue to be announced, 2.30 p.m.; Sunday, January 20, Taghmon, 2.30 p.m.; Sunday, January 27, S.B.R., Ferns venue to be announced, 2.30 p.m.

On January 8 there is training on the track in Rosslare, with children's sessions in the hall on January 10 and 11. Middle distance will resume Wednesday, January 2 - meet at 7.30 p.m. in the Presentation - and Friday, January 4, on the track in Rosslare.

The indoor season is fast approaching and Menapians track and field athletes have been busy preparing. First up is the Munster Open on January 6 where 16 Junior, Under-23 and Senior Menapians have entered so far.

One week later a squad of Menapians and W.I.T. A.C. athletes travel to Cardiff for an international open meet. Contact Shane (087-9955505) for more details. We wish all our members a year full of P.B's!
