It was Bloomfield Cup time in Enniscorthy Golf Club last weekend and the sun came out to make it a most enjoyable weekend of golf.

Scoring was tough despite the good conditions but off the blue markers it is a long and challenging course. Bert Murphy was the leading qualifier with a fantastic score of 67 to lead by 3 points going into the playoff but it was to be Robert Ronan's day as he came from behind to win.

Competition remains fierce at St. Patrick's Pitch and Putt Club Enniscorthy as the 2013 season continues at full speed.

Ruari Fortune chalked up another victory in a club 18 hole contest when he returned a nett 44 to edge out Gavin Kenny on the same score after a countback in a very tight finish with both players having scored well in very dry conditions.

The gross prize was won by Paul Tobin with a good score of 47,some seven shots under par. The following week saw a change in the winners' enclosure with Stephen Tobin returning to form shooting a very respectable score of 41 nett to win by a single stroke from Derek Ryan on 42.

The gross prize went again to Paul Tobin this time with a very good round of ten under par 44 and great credit is due to those players for shooting such low scores on very hard greens which nevertheless remain in wonderful condition in spite of the unseasonal weather and due in no small measure to the great work being done by the Club's green keeping staff ably led by Nigel Baxter.

This week's contest is an 18 hole scramble on Wednesday evening followed by a trip to Gowran on Thursday evening to play in the Regional League.

Last Wednesday's competition (Men's Captain's Prize to the Ladies) was postponed and will be held next Wednesday, June 5th due to the sad passing of one of our Past Captains, Presidents and team selectors, Kathleen Pyne RIP. Who would ever have said last week we would be mourning Kathleen's death.

She was a very active member who especially, loved the club's representative teams. As a team selector and motivator, she kept us all on our toes with her words "if selected", therefore we knew we had to practice and perform! She will be sadly missed by us all.

Next Wednesday's competition (Men's Captain's Prize to the Ladies), will be an 18 holes stroke medal competition, with timesheet only and draws made from these slots.

Times must be booked by tonight Tuesday 4th at 10pm and arrive ready to play 10 minutes in advance of your time. Your co-operation with this request is vital.

This trial method is to prevent a long wait for players to be drawn.

Last week our Senior Foursomes team unfortunately lost v Woodenbridge GC.

Ger Mackay and Liz Bennett had the only win, Mary Dowling and Margaret Furlong, Ann Conway and Mary Kavanagh came up against very tight foursomes golf and could only admire the exhibition their opponents displayed.

The Boyne Trophy will be in action next Thursday June 6th at 4pm. We've got two pairs at home and three pairs away v Kilcoole GC. Support would be really appreciated. Come on! Let's do it for Kathleen!

Open week commences next Saturday, with lots of golf available to men and women. Check your diary and the club for events.

Open week is a great time to invite your friends to come and play our beautiful golf course, it is a credit to the groundsmen. Well done gents.

At last we got a bit of sun and an ideal day to enjoy a game of golf in our usual friendly atmosphere. We had a smaller number of teams taking part than normal but the competition still was keen, with all 12 endeavouring to be in the winner's enclosure. Lightning fast greens which were a joy to putt on kept the scoring down somewhat with the eventual victors only carding 89 points.

Skippered by Andy Ronan (13) and backed up by Tony Redmond (17), Sean O hUginn (19) and that great old veteran, Michael Martin (32), they had two points to spare over the runners-up. These were Denis Kirwan (11), Martin Cahill (16), Reiner Opperman (20) and Michael Somers (21), their finishing tally being 87 points. In third place on 84 points came Martin McGrath (12), Michael Gannon (18), Jim Kehoe (20) and Les Jastrzebski (27). Only one nearest the pin effort was deemed eligible for a prize and Sean Ryan took that. Would all players please note that the stationery ball-must be inside the tape length to qualify for a nearest the pin prize.

We have our normal outing this Thursday (6th June) with the draw at the usual time of 10-40 sharp-no latecomers facilitated. On Thursday June 13th it is an Open 3 Person Scramble and the teams are on the website-please check your team and tee time.
