SARSFIELDS There has been a very slow, and disappointing, response to the request for the e-mail addresses of club members interested in obtaining the proposed newsletter.

Perhaps the first week of a new year was a bad time to look for information, so we shall try again.

Just to re-iterate, it was agreed at the recent A.G.M. that a club newsletter will be compiled and distributed to members in 2018. This will be available via e-mail only, so anyone interested in receiving the newsletter is asked to send their own address to alanahernesars@gmail.com without further delay. Please mention Sars newsletter in the subject line of the e-mail.

Congratulations to Dylan Furlong and his Wexford Senior football colleagues on beating Dublin for the first time since 1997 in Sunday's O'Byrne Cup game in St. Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy. Dylan was an unused substitute in the game, with Wexford winning by one point (1-12 to 0-14).

This Saturday at 4 p.m., Dylan and his adult club colleagues will receive their pre-season training plans for an eight-week programme which will take place in the High Performance Centre in Club Vitae Clayton Whites Hotel. Many thanks to Whites for their co-operation and much-appreciated ongoing sponsorship.

A reminder that the Wexford Has Talent auditions will take place in Clayton Whites Hotel on Sunday, January 14, followed by the two semi-finals on Saturday, January 20, and Saturday, January 27. The grand final will be in the same venue on February 24. Keep an eye on www.wexfordhastalent.com for up to the minute news.

We'll be outside St. Iberius Church on North Main Street next Saturday afternoon, January 13, to distribute advertising cards and to take registration of acts for the competition, and we're seeking help from club members.

We are asking all club members to like and share all Wexford Has Talent posts on social media, and please come along and support the competition on semi-final and final nights. This is a major fundraiser for the club so please support it and help us spread the word.

Best wishes to Simon Kirwan who will receive a Seana Ghael award at the annual presentation function in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Sunday, January 14.

The winning lotto numbers on January 8 were 5, 20, 25 and 27. There was no jackpot winner, and next week's jackpot will be €9,800.

On Friday, January 12, the club will host a reunion dinner in the Talbot Hotel and only a very few tickets are available (contact Mick directly on 086-6010425).

We expect a very large crowd for a great evening as we look back on a fantastic 2017. The evening will begin with a drinks reception at 7 p.m. followed by food at 8 p.m. Music will be provided by the excellent Point Blank and will be followed by a disco until late.

Our 2018 calendar has sold very well but there’s still time to get yours from the following outlets: Hanrahan's Londis in Piercestown, Roche's service station on the Rosslare Road, Jordan's in Murrintown, The Farmers' Kitchen, and School and Office Supplies, Selskar Street.

The calendar features a multitude of pictures from across the full range of 2017. It’s a fantastic memento of this remarkable year and it costs just €10.

Many thanks to the local businesses who have come on board to sponsor pages which means that every cent taken in on sales will go directly towards club and player development costs in 2018.

As we start a new year why not adopt a meaningful resolution in 2018 to improve your spoken Irish? Irish conversation classes for adults will commence on Wednesday, January 10, at 8 p.m. in the club.

The focus will be on conversation and fun and don’t worry about what level you’re at as we will aim to cater for all abilities. All you will need to bring is an open mind and a paper and pen.

There will also be classes for other age groups, with each group’s classes running for a limited period of time in order to keep things fresh and maintain interest.

After the adult group is up and running, we intend to have a group specifically for those preparing for the Leaving Cert. oral exams (which begin on April 9), so we’re planning on Saturday evening classes (probably at around 6.15 p.m.) to run from mid-February.

Finally, at the start of May, we will have classes for children from fourth class to first year.
