Community Games entries now sought

A VERY happy and prosperous new year to all involved with Wexford Community Games.

Entries are being taken for the first of the events to be held at the beginning of February. The closing date for receipt of entries to the county Secretary, John Carr, is January 10, with no late entries accepted.

Entries are needed for badminton (boys Under-13 and girls Under-13), chess (mixed Under-12 and Under-16), table tennis (boys Under-13 and girls Under-13), cross-country (boys and girls Under-12, boys and girls Under-14 and 1,200m Under-13 race).

The draughts will take place in Bree on February 1, with chess in Bellefield, Enniscorthy, on February 6, badminton in Taghmon on February 8, table-tennis in Glynn Hall on February 9 and cross-country in New Ross on February 23.

A reminder to all volunteers working with children, either as a team manager/co-ordinator, referee, official etc., that they must ensure that they have completed a Garda vetting form. If you have not completed a form for over three years, then you need to re-apply again.

The first county meeting of Wexford Community Games will be held in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Monday, January 13, at 8 p.m. The draws for the early games will be handed out.

There are changes to the national programme in the coming season. We are now reverting back to the old days of having two weekends in August (15th to 17th and 22nd to 24th), and the May festival is gone.
