SARSFIELDS Oliver McMahon's spectacular goal in the Matty Forde Cup final in Innovate Wexford Park last Wednesday has been the talk of the country, with a host of past and present footballers lining up to bestow lavish praise after watching footage of the stunning strike.

On the fairways

Rosslare Ladies - Tuesday yielded horrendous weather in the morning, with the faint-hearted ladies backing out of playing. The winds were very high all day and this was reflected with a C.S.S. of 77.

New Ross Boat Club - A group of 24 rowers from New Ross Boat Club travelled to Belgium to compete at the annual Ghent International Regatta which is held over two days and sees crews from all over Europe compete, including a number of clubs from Ireland.

Newbawn darts: Well, we have reached the halfway point in the league season and it's all to play for at this stage as we head towards the Christmas break. Next Wednesday, December 16, is the last night before the break and we will be back on Wednesday, January 6.

New Ross Seniors: Once again the Gods were on our side last Thursday when, after the gale-force winds and heavy rain of Wednesday, we got out for our game. The going on the fairways was heavy underfoot but the famed greens were in perfect condition and again a joy to putt on.

United Striders AC - The under-age Striders had their best day at a county cross-country event in many years when a big squad scooped a total of 13 medals in the championship races at the Wexford even-age championships.

New Ross Seniors - It was a tough day at the office for us Seniors on Thursday when in our weekly competition we played off the white or back stakes on practically every hole which made our game less enjoyable than usual.

Gorey Rugby - Gorey and New Ross have played multiple times in the past season with every game being very tight with no more than a score in it. This South-East Plate final was no exception.

In glorious weather conditions more akin to June in mid-summer rather than an October Autumn day, we were blessed with non-stop sunshine for our weekly outing on Thursday.
