The Wexford School of Ballet and Performing Arts (WSBPA) created a little bit of Christmas magic at the National Opera House, as they staged the full-length ballet 'The Nutcracker' in all its colourful glory.
It was a great experience for the students, taking on such a wonderful piece in front of a sold-out Opera House. A huge amount of work went into the show in what was the grand finale of a busy year.
'This year has been particularly busy with five performances in the Opera House,' said owner of the school Suzanne O'Leary. 'There's also been multiple exam sessions and a trip to Disney Paris to perform there. Students have also been very involved in the Oyster Lane Theatre Group, Light Opera Society, Wexford Pantomime Society, Sing out Loud and 'South Pacific' by the Loreto/St Peter's.
'The school excels in producing all-round performers. Classes are taken in ballet, modern, contemporary, tap and musical theatre/singing. Many of the school's ex-students are studying in London stage schools or performing professionally.'
The Nutcracker was certainly a fitting ending to the year and the performers received a huge standing ovation at the final curtain. WSBPA's next performance will be 'Movie Musicals' which will also take to the Opera House stage. The school is now enrolling, and for more details visit www.wexfordschoolballet.com.
