The organisers of the inaugural Viking Fire Festival which will take place on Wexford's quayfront on Saturday, September 28 are calling on retail and hospitality businesses in Wexford town to join in the spirit of the celebrations by entering a window dressing competition.
'We would like to invite all retailers and business owners in Wexford town to help showcase a vibrant celebration of our history' said the festival organiser Maura Bell who is currently Deputy Mayor of Wexford.
Businesses are encouraged to dress their windows in a Viking theme at any time from now until September 30, with prizes on offer for the winners.
The Viking Fire Festival will be free of charge to locals and visitors from 11 am until late on September 28 and will include the recreation of a Viking Village with storytelling, a market, music performances and activities including coin striking, weaving, leatherwork and metal work demonstrations.
The festival will culminate in a spectacular Inferno Fire Show on the quayfront.
The window dressing competition will be judged during the weekend of the festival, based on the best use of the Viking theme and the overall winning business will receive a prize of a Viking Stayover for up to six people at the Irish national Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig.
